Gorge Wind Forecast (and Sauvie’s, Jones, the Coast…)
There’s not much to talk about in wind for the next few days, at least not in the Gorge, but there’s good news in the long range (and never to be trusted) forecast. So, break out your best patience skills, make plans to get some stuff done the next few days, and rest up for the big cooldown later this week. Today, however, is starting out with light wind at less than 5mph in most locations. We do have some gradient support – .05 (pdx-dls), .02 (dls-psc) and .40 (eph-dls) – but those gradients are forecast to decrease later. Expect less than 10mph for much of the day, possibly even becoming glassy midday with a slight chance of 5-10 late near Steven’s Locks and Hood River.
Tomorrow starts out glassy and stays that way for much of the day with westerlies at 5-10 possible in the afternoon. Tuesday starts out light and variable and picks up to E 10-13 midday through the afternoon at Steven’s Locks and Rooster. The rest of the Gorge will see light east wind.

It’s the bi-annual summer pledge drive!
See above for details.
The heat low in western Cascadia shifts east on Wednesday, likely later than the models predict, giving us a shot at some strong afternoon westerlies. It’s almost certain this will happen, as I have a 3pm appointment in Portland that I can’t switch. Thursday currently looks like a nuker, as does Friday dawn patrol. I’m clearing Thursday. You can do as you wish.
Coast (north/central/south), quite possibly the place to be this week to avoid smoke and heat! Today: 15-20/25-30/30+, W swell 2′ @ 12 seconds. Tomorrow: 15-20/25-30/30+, W 3′ @ 13. Tuesday: 15-20/20-25/25-30, NW 5′ @ 8.
Jones n’ Sauvie’s beta test forecast. Jones today, 21-24. Jones tomorrow, 21-24. Jones Tuesday, 16-19. Sauvie’s today, 13-16. Sauvie’s tomorrow, 13-16. Sauvie’s Tuesday, 13-16.

Random Morning Thoughts
I was sitting here doing my morning meditation, and part of my mind kept trying to organize the events following my sit; I have a busy day planned, and need to makes sure things get done on time. “Okay,” I thought, “I’ll get the meatballs going and then I’ll take a shower and then…”
We spend so much of our lives doing this. We’re mentally moving on to The Next Thing before we’re done with This Thing. This happens in our actions, and it happens in conversation too: we’re listening to someone talk, and we latch on to one piece of what they said and start thinking about where we’ll go with that, and pretty soon we’re not listening.
I came across a neat little exercise to address this, and I’d like to share it. You’re sitting down reading this, probably. At some point you’re going to stand up. When you do, notice the entire process of standing. Be one with the standing up, without moving toward The Next Thing. See if you can do that each time you stand up or sit down today.
It’s really hard to remember to do this. I remember once or twice a day! But if you can do this one small exercise in mindfulness, you’ll be more present more of the time. And that will change your world in profound ways. So get yourself up (mindfully), and have an awesome day!
Gorge Weather Forecast
NOAA has decided to predict “patchy smoke” in their forecast. I’m going to one-up them and say it’ll be smoky. I know it’ll be smoky because, well, because it’s smoky outside my window, and there’s a river of smoke pouring out of the White Salmon mouth. Expect smoke today with temps in the mid 50’s early and the mid 80’s this afternoon. Light wind. Tomorrow brings temps in the upper 60’s early and low 90’s in the afternoon with lots of smoke. Light wind. Tuesday looks just like Monday. No rainbows for the 72 hour period.
White Sprinter Van of the Day
Road and Mountain Biking
It’s super smoky out there this morning. I’m not sure what that means for your exercise plans, but I suspect a 100 mile bike ride wouldn’t be the best thing for your lungs today. But do as you like! Looks like we’ll see light wind for the next few days, normally good for road biking, but presenting us with the challenge of a lot of smoke. Your best bet to escape the smoke may be to head east in the morning, but I’m not sure how far east the smoke has progressed.
