Thank you for using this forecast. Like it? Find it useful? Support it (and me!) by sending some cash my way. Why should you keep doing this when you’re under a stay-at-home order? Because my bills don’t stop – I hope you’ll consider contributing even though the world has ground to a standstill. That’ll keep the forecast going through this crisis, and it’ll mean the forecast is here when we all emerge from our homes. What’s it cost to support me and get the email version? Not $99 a year. Nope. Not $49. Just $19.99 or more gets you a year. Click below to contribute. Thank you!!

Gorge Wind Forecast
Oregon and Washington are encouraging people to not travel more than 50 miles (not mph!) to access recreation. Non-essential travel is still being strongly discouraged in ALL jurisdictions. Land managers and law enforcement are carefully watching to see if people maintain social distancing. If crowding happens, water access will be revoked. If you are local and lucky enough to have water access in your community, please do this: rig, play, leave. There is NO camping allowed at any of the river parks. Please don’t camp unlawfully; doing so risks access for everyone, including for people who just want to use the parks for a picnic. Please follow the directions of your local government officials and help keep the Gorge community safe. Thank you!
For the next few days, a series of low pressure systems will swing in and around and up and down across the PNW. Those, along with other meteorological features, will drive moderately strong and gusty westerlies. Sunday’s gap day in the weather. A low pressure system moves out of the region to the east, high pressure holds off the Cali coast, and a strong front approaches in the offshore waters. Not an ideal setup, but good enough. Expect 10-13 east of the Deschutes River and between Viento and Swell this morning. Afternoon wind rises to 20-23 from Rowena to Threemile and 12-15 from Stevenson to Mosier. River flow is 293kcfs and temp is 58 degrees.
Monday starts rainy, and not just near Hood River. Rain falls all the way to the Idaho border, most likely. Write off the morning for wind; it’ll be calm. Showers stick around in the afternoon west of Hood River, but the eastern Gorge clears. Launches from Lyle to Threemile pick up to 25-29 with a slight chance for more.
Another low pressure system moves along the coast and then inland on Tuesday. High pressure starts to exert more influence in the afternoon. That should be just enough to give a little added kick to the wind; let’s call it 12-15 everywhere in the morning. Afternoon westerlies hold at 12-15 from Stevenson to Mosier, pick up to 18-22 at Arlington, and max out at 25-28 from Rowena to Rufus.
