Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

The Columbia Gorge is locked into a gloomy Nothing cloud, but other areas of the PNW, including Mt. Hood, are full-on sunshine. That’ll be the same until Tuesday afternoon, after which models are all over the place on precipitation timing and amounts, rendering it completely impossible to forecast.

For Sunday, the mountain will be sunny all day. Free air freezing level (FAF): 10,000′. High temp: 42 degrees at 5000′. Wind: S 10 early, SE 15-20 in the afternoon and evening. On Monday, the weather remains sunny. FAF: 10,000′. High temp: 39 degrees. Wind: SE 20-25 all day becoming S 10-15 overnight. Tuesday starts clear and sees clouds in the afternoon. No precip. FAF: 6000′ early, 1000′ in the afternoon, and 4500′ overnight. Wind: S 10-15 early, SE 20-25 in the afternoon, and S 5-10 overnight.

Models are in complete disagreement on Wednesday. The GFS brings in about 1” of snow during the day. The Euro brings in precip on Wednesday evening. After that, the models are in complete disagreement on amounts and timing of precipitation, so let’s leave of this conversation until there’s more clarity!

Gorge Wind Forecast

For Sunday and Monday, we’ll have easterlies. Expect 40-50mph at Rooster rock, 25-30 at Stevenson, and 20-25 near Viento. The wind starts out exactly the same on Tuesday, and drops about 5mph in the afternoon. Easterlies continue on Wednesday with a possible midday drop.

JONES, SAUVIE’S, COAST: now on vacation for the fall and winter. Will return in spring.

Road and Mountain Biking

Syncline is probably fine to ride today. Stay on the trails. Don’t shortcut the corners. Remember, if you damage the trails, volunteers have to spend timing fixing them rather than building new trails. There are lots of other options: gravel grinding, road biking, trainer biking. Don’t knock ’em ’til you try ’em!

Upcoming Events

It’s Saturday. There’s a free bootcamp workout at Sorosis Park in The Dalles at 10am. There’s an XC race at Mt. Hood Meadows this morning. Laura Green’s memorial is at Springhouse Cellars (The Ruins) at 10am today.
