Sunday-Monday forecast: decidedly autumn-like out there…

Thank you for using this forecast. I offer it freely so you can have more fun and plan your life. It does take significant time and energy to produce. If you find yourself using it often, or if you feel your life is more awesome because of my work, please make a donation. You can…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Gorge Wind Forecast

Not much is happening in terms of wind for the next few days. Gradients for this morning, Sunday, agree: east 0.04 for the west, and west 0.02 for the east. While there are easterlies at 20-25 near Rooster, it’s raining there and will likely continue to for a while. You’ll also find gusty 10-15 near Stevenson and perhaps Viento, but with rain and temps in the low 40’s, why??

Monday brings another round of light easterlies: 10-15 from Rooster to Viento in the morning and 5-10 in the afternoon. At least it will be sunny! Tuesday looks slightly stronger: E 15-20 all day long from Rooster to Viento. It looks like westerlies will return briefly on Thursday night. After that, models disagree on the overall weather picture.

COAST, JONES, SAUVIE’S: Coast (north/central/south, wind N unless otherwise specified – swell forecast courtesy of National Weather Service). Sunday: 5-10/20-25/LTV, NW swell 6′ at 10 seconds. Monday: 10-15/10-15/20-25, NW 4′ @ 8. Tuesday: 5-10/15-20/25-30, W 4′ @ 11. Jones & Sauvie’s Sunday-Tuesday: nope.

Hood River Weather Forecast

Sunday looks cloudy and drizzly with showers tapering off this afternoon. Temps will be near 40 early and in the low 50’s later. Light west wind. 54% chance of rainbows. Monday starts cloudy and turns mostly sunny. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and upper 50’s later. Light east wind. No rainbows. Tuesday looks clear and sunny. Temps will be in the low 30’s early and low 60’s later. Light east wind. No rainbows.

Road and Mountain Biking

We had about .32” of rain in the last 24 hours. Generally speaking, that is too much. With cool temps and no wind, trails will likely remain slick today (with the possible exception of Syncline). Let them be! Logging is finished on the Whoopdee trail. The southern 1/3 of the trail is gone, but you are welcome to go up there and ride and check it out. Ronnoc trail is still open and good to go, as is the climb out. Work parties coming soon.

130,140, Borderline, and the jump trails in the 150 area are closed for timber harvesting. Upper 8 Track is now closed due to logging. Motorized use is now permitted in Post (thanks, rain!), east side and Middle Mountain. If you’re riding Underwood, please do not park at the trailhead as per request by SDS. Continue past the trailhead 0.5 miles or so to the new parking area. The cows are off Hospital Hill, which means your dog can come along.

Upcoming Events

Today’s events start off with the weekly $5 yoga class at Samadhi in White Salmon. Porchfest, a street party with art and music and a bike parade, runs from 10 to 4 on June street in Hood River. With snow falling in the mountains this weekend, it’s time to think about skiing. The Cooper Spur Alpine Team has a fundraiser ’80’s ski party next Saturday evening at the Ruins in Hood River. Pacific Hermitage in White Salmon has a two-day wood-splitting party next weekend, your chance to get in shape for chopping and stacking your own wood.
