We’re seeing orographic (terrain-enhanced) snowfall this morning with breaks in the weather, and that’s going to continue through late morning. In other words, it’ll be snowing and with sunbreaks this morning. After that, we’ll see a weak weather system move in, increasing the snowfall rate this afternoon and evening. The snow level today will be around 3000′ all day, fluctuating a bit, but not too drastically. We may see as much as .1-.2” water value (WV) this morning, for 1-2” of new snow. After a midday break, we’ll see another .1-.2” WV between 4pm and 10pm, for another 1-2” of snow. Wind today will be W 30 early, dropping to W 20 by 9am and turning to SW 10 this afternoon. Continued after the chart.

See below for details.
Wednesday looks mostly sunny pretty much all day. The free air freezing level will be around 9000′ all day with SW wind at 20mph. Thursday looks very, very wet on the mountain, with several inches of rain falling. The rain may switch to snow in time for us to pick up a nice layer of fresh by Friday morning, but it’s really too far out to predict that, so let’s wait and see.

Random Morning Thoughts
I was talking to my cat yesterday wishing she could understand my words, and she was meowing at me, probably wishing I could understand her. This got me thinking about what pets can teach us about relationships with other humans.
We can’t communicate with our pets, for the most part. And although we can train them superficially, we can’t ask them to be self-aware and modify their core personality features. The best we can do is be good parents, and hope that our unconditional love will impact them in positive ways. Because of this, we’re forced to love our pets just the way they are, accepting the quirks, annoying habits, and neediness.
We can learn a lot from this, I think. By loving our not-perfect animals, we can learn to love the not-perfect humans around us. After all, we have zero power to change the personality of the humans in our world, just as we have zero power to change the personality of our pets. If we can study ourselves and understand how we accepted our flawed pets, we can find the ability to accept the flawed humans around us.
And when I saw “flawed”, I mean “perfect”. After all, none of us is without flaws, and we’re all perfect just the way we are, until we work on ourselves and become even better. So, see how you accept your pet (or anything else you love unconditionally), apply it to other people, and apply it to yourself. Your world will become a better, happier, less anxious place. Have an awesome day.

Monday will probably see the Nothing, but there’s a chance of partly cloudy sky in the afternoon. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and the mid 40’s in the afternoon. East wind. No rainbows. Tuesday looks like Nothing in the morning, but partly cloudy sky is a possibility. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and the mid 40’s in the afternoon. Clouds move in during the afternoon and light rain starts up around 4pm. East wind. 9% chance of rainbows. Wednesday looks mostly dry and Thursday looks torrentially rainy.

White Sprinter Van of the Day
Road and Mountain Biking
It’s wet and snowy on the trails. The Mosier Twin Tunnels trail is bare and wet with lots of pinecones, so that’s an open ride for you. Or you could do a long road ride out to The Dalles like Deresta, Wong, Marcroft, Kozmo, and all the other big boys did yesterday. In trail news, stay off the doubletrack at Syncline, and you’ll do the trail a favor. Ride it and you’ll damage it. And thank you for your cooperation – Syncline looks better right now than it’s ever looked in winter. You people are amazing.
