Gorge Wind Forecast
As suspected, Saturday’s wind beat the model forecasts by a few miles per hour. I imagine this made for a pretty fun downwind race for all the folks at the Paddle Challenge. Course racing happens today at the Waterfront Park. Whatever wind you see today, get it, because things don’t look so great for the next two days. Models do agree on stronger wind returning Wednesday.
So, Sunday. We have models disagreeing again: the GFS likes 10-13 and the ECMWF likes 17-20. A weak incoming low may decrease the gradients this afternoon, but still.. plenty of clouds in Portland, plenty of sunshine out here… let’s go with light and variable wind early with 12-15 midday from Stevenson to Swell with 10-13 from the Wunderbar to Mosier. Areas east of Mosier will see light easterly flow.
Monday starts off with light and variable wind or very light west wind. There won’t be much more: just 10-13ish from Stevenson to Swell with 5-10 or less from Hood River to Mosier and light east wind out east. Easterlies increase to 15-20 on Tuesday morning between Rooster Rock and Viento (great for a downwind/downcurrent paddle). They fade to less than 5 in the afternoon.
Models send the pesky low packing eastward on Wednesday, allowing for more marine clouds in Portland and stronger gradients. We have some agreement that westerlies will climb into the low 20’s on Wednesday and the upper 20’s for a few days after that.
BONUS: Jones Sunday: 23-26. Monday: no. Tuesday: nada. Sauvie’s Sunday & Monday: 10-13. Tuesday: zero. Coast (north/central/south). Sunday: W5/N5/25-30, NW swell 5′ @ 8 seconds. Monday: W5/W5/25-30, NW 5′ @ 8. Tuesday: zero/nada/zilch, NW 4′ @ 8 and W 3′ @ 12.

Mt. Hood Mountain Weather Forecast

Gorge Weather Forecast
Yucky smoke has returned and will stick around through Tuesday evening. In a fun twist, it’ll be Washington and BC smoke this time, rather than California and Oregon smoke. Temps Sunday will be in the upper 50’s early (open windows) and near 90 later (closed windows). Light west wind. No rainbows. Monday looks similar with a little less wind and a slight chance of evening thunder. Tuesday looks smoky and not cloudy. Temps will be in the mid 60’s early and low 90’s in the afternoon. Light east wind. No rainbows.
