Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Gorge Wind Forecast

Not much is happening for wind for the next few days, but the swap meet will make up for that! It’s happening today (Sunday) at Lot 1 on the Hood River waterfront. Don’t despair about the lack of wind; plenty is coming starting next Wednesday. It would take a dramatic change in the forecast for the wind to fail!

Let’s look at Sunday. Ah, what a nice day for a swim. Easterlies at 10-13 this morning from Rooster to Stevenson or Viento shut down midday. Expect calm, glassy conditions all through the Gorge through late afternoon. Around 5pm, the wind picks up to W 11-14 from Stevenson to Doug’s, first at Stevenson, and then slowly filling in to the east. River flow is 229kcfs. River temp is 57F. High temp forecast today: 86F for Hood River.

Monday starts with light west flow and turns calm by late morning. Break out the ski boat and the flat-water SUP gear. Afternoon westerlies pick up to 12-15 or so from Stevenson to Doug’s. High temp: 86.

Tuesday looks like the most excellent swimming day in years. The wind will be calm early, E 10-15 midday at Rooster anad Stevenson, and calm in the afternoon. It’ll be muggy (dewpoint 55). it’ll be hot (94F). You’ll be drawn to the nearest cool body of water.

Cooler air pushes in on the west side sometime Wednesday. That kicks the wind up into the mid 20’s, at least. Thursday’s looking like 28-32, and Friday looks like 26-30. Of course, that’s a long ways out and subject to change. But the cooldown is almost certain, and that means westerlies. Have a great day!

Coast, Jones, Sauvie’s

Coast (north/central/south, waves. Wind direction north unless otherwise noted. Swell forecast from NWS.) Sunday: 5-10/10-15/25-35, W swell 2′ at 11 seconds. Monday: 15-20/20-25/30-40, W 4′ @ 10. Tuesday: NW15-20/NW10-15/NNW15-20, W 4′ @ 10. Jones Sunday: 10-13. Monday: 8-11. Tuesday: 7-10. Sauvie’s Sunday: 11-14 > 5pm. Monday: 13-16. Tuesday: 14-17.
