Sunday: Gorgeous and amazing and warm out there today!

Thank you for using this forecast. I offer it freely so you can have more fun and plan your life. It does take significant time and energy to produce. If you find yourself using it often, or if you feel your life is more awesome because of my work, please make a donation. You can…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

It’s a sunny start to Sunday, and today will be the last of the sun for a while. Go get it! It’s unclear if we’ll be seeing rain or snow or a mix this week, but we’ll definitely be seeing precipitation.

Sunday: sunshine until late afternoon when clouds move int. Free air freezing level: 5000′ early, 6500′ in the afternoon, 5500′ overnight. Wind will be light SW all day and E 10 overnight. Meadows has their Nordic Extravaganza today, and they plan to open Superbowl.

Monday starts off with wet snow, possibly mixed with some wet rain. That’s probably going to turn to pure rain in the afternoon. The snow level will be 5500′ early, 5000′ midday, and 6000′ overnight. About 0.3” water value (WV) falls during the day, for 1-3” wet snow. About 0.2” rain falls overnight. Wind will be E 10 early, SE 10 midday, SW 10 in the afternoon, and E 10 overnight. Probably could have said “light and variable”, eh?

Tuesday looks rainy, possibly switching to snow overnight, depending on which model you believe. The snow level will be 6000′ early, 6500′ in the afternoon, and 5000′ after midnight (maybe). About 0.5” rain falls during the day and 0.3” mixed precip overnight, for up to 1” of new. Wind will be E 10 early, WNW 15 in the afternoon, WSW 25 after midnight.

Wednesday’s models disagree. The GFS keeps temps cold enough for snow, and the Euro is warm enough for rain. It ain’t going to be a powder day, but that’s all that clear. Not-dry weather continues through the end of the week.

Gorge Wind

Sunday starts with E 15-20 near Rooster and 10-15 near Stevenson and Viento. The wind will go calm by 2pm. Monday starts calm. Afternoon wind will be E 10-15 near Stevenson and Rooster. Tuesday looks like light easterlies all day. These systems move through Wednesday morning and weak high pressure temporarily builds offshore. This brings a round of westerlies: gusty 13-16 in the west and gusty 23-28 from Mosier to Arlington.

Road and Mountain Biking

Syncline and Columbia Hills remain your best Gorge options for mountain biking at this time. Sounds like some stuff is open on Hospital Hill. While it is currently possible to ride the stunts and jumps at Family Man, Post Canyon trails are still under about 4” of wet snow according to a report from yesterday. In road biking news, State Road, Mosier to The Dalles, and Sevenmile have been swept of gravel and were frequented by ALL the road bikers yesterday. Should be AWESOME today. The grass widows are blooming, but there’s no sign of Balsam Root yet.

Upcoming Events

On Sunday, there’s by-donation yoga at Samadhi at 9am. There’s ping pong at the Skamania County Fairgrounds at 10:30, pickup touch rugby for all ages at 11am at the Hood River Marina, and indoor Ultimate Frisbee at 5pm at Horizon Christian School. The movie “The Bikes of Wrath” ($10) plays at Columbia Center for the Arts on Wednesday. Next Saturday is the Gorge Gravel Grinder (sold out) and Hood River Appreciation Day at Meadows (not possible to sell out).
