Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

It’s going to be a sunny Sunday on Mt. Hood. If you can’t make it up, the next couple of days will be dry as well. Starting Wednesday midday, we move into a wetter pattern. Snow will probably fall on Wednesday into Thursday, but it appears we may see a switch to rain Thursday into Friday before a return to colder temps and additional snowfall.

For Sunday, just expect clear, cold weather on the mountain. Sunshine sticks around all day. The free air freezing level will be 0-1000′ with mountain temps in the teens. Wind will be NE 15 early, WNW 10 in the afternoon, and W 10 overnight.

Monday starts clear and adds some high clouds midday. The free air freezing level (FAF)will be 0′ early, 4000′ in the afternoon, and 6000′ overnight. Mountain temps max out in the upper 20’s during the day. Wind will be W 10 early, light westerly midday, SW 5-10 in the afternoon, and a touch stronger overnight.

Tuesday looks clear all day. The FAF will be 6000′ all day. Wind: S 10-15 all day long. Looking at Wednesday, precip arrives around 1pm. It appears mountain temps will be 0-2C during the day with 1.1” water value (WV) probably just cool enough for wet snowfall at 5000′. Call it 4-7” down low and 10-13” up high. More details to come as we get closer.

Looking at Thursday into Friday… the Northwest taps into The Weather Phenomenon Formerly Known as the Pineapple Express, now known as the Atmospheric River. The GFS and the ECMWF are in remarkable agreement today on the moisture targeting the Mt. Hood area. That could easily change. As of now, it appears the mountain will see about 2” water value with temps at 2-4C. That’s too warm for snow, however you slice and dice it. That said, it appears temps will drop back into the snow zone Friday through Sunday with significant accumulation. That’s all really too far out to be predicting the weather, so we’ll see if that forecast holds as we get closer!

Gorge Wind Forecast

Light west wind starts off your Sunday, and then you’re back to easterlies for a few days. For Sunday, expect peak westerlies at 12-15mph from Stevenson to The Dalles. Monday starts with E 15-20 near Stevenson and Rooster and builds to E 25-30 in the afternoon. Tuesday brings easterlies at 40-50mph all day long. Wednesday starts with E 30-40 and ends up light and variable.

COAST, JONES, SAUVIE’S: Detailed forecast is on winter break.

Hood River Weather Forecast

Partly cloudy sky Sunday morning gives way to … partly cloudy sky in the afternoon. Temps will be in the upper 30’s early and low 40’s later. Light west wind. 39% chance of rainbows. Monday looks partly cloudy in the morning with high clouds by midday. Temps will be in the upper 20’s early and upper 30’s later. East wind. No rainbows. Tuesday looks clear. Temps will be in the upper 20’s early and upper 30’s later. East wind. No rainbows.   Looking for a complete Columbia Gorge forecast? Looking for more humor in your weather? Obscenities? Road and Mountain Biking

Reports say that Hospital Hill is a freeze-thaw mess up top. That means Whoopdee is likely the same. With all the rain in the last few days, Post will be too muddy to ride. Don’t do it, or you’ll damage the trails. Try Syncline for the best results. Gravel grinding on the dirt roads is also a good option, as is road biking the Petersburg Loop in The Dalles.
