Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

Intermittent snow continues through Wednesday or so. That’s followed by dry, warm weather on the slopes next weekend (probably – models are pretty sure about this). Models then jump on the cold-wet bandwagon starting about 8 days out. There’s surprising agreement for that far out, but hey, let’s go with it because it’s a great forecast!

For Saturday night into Sunday, Mt. Hood will pick up a few niches of dense snow. About 0.4” water equivalent is forecast with the snow level at 0′ near Mt. Hood and 850mb (~5000′) temps rising from -2C to 0C or +1C overnight. That’s upper 20’s rising to low 30’s. With temps warming, that should work out to 2-3” snow at 5000′. Wind Saturday night: S 15-25 rising to SW 25-40 by Sunday morning. Moderate snowfall Sunday morning gives way to brief sunshine in the afternoon and light snowfall overnight. The snow level will be 0′ early, 3000′ midday, 5000′ in the afternoon, and 4000′ overnight. Models hint at a brief period of warmer weather (up to +6C) in the afternoon before precip arrives. Morning snowfall will be about 0.5” WE or 3-5” dense new snow. Overnight, another 0.2” WE is forecast for 1-2” more. Wind: SW 25-40 early fades to SW 10-15 in the afternoon and builds to S 20-35 overnight.

Intermittent flurries are forecast on Monday with less than 1” total new snow for the 24 hour period. The snow level will be 4000′ in the morning, 5500-6000′ in the afternoon, and 4000′ overnight. Okay, we could see a little drizzle overnight. Wind: S 20-35 in the morning, S 10-20 in the afternoon, and SSW 15-30 overnight. A couple inches of snow are forecast on Tuesday with the snow level at 4000′ and moderate SW wind. Ditto on Wednesday, but the snow level will be 3000′. Dry weather returns on Thursday and almost certainly persists through at least next Sunday morning. Yeah, we are predicting that far out today, because models are so certain. Which, according to Murphy’s law, means they’ll say something completely different tomorrow. In the meantime, enjoy all the awesome packed powder on the slopes!

Ride gravel. Ride your trainer. Build trails. There are trail builders seeking extra hands on seven additional miles of trail on Whoopdee. Contact HRATS for more information.
