For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of what the Gorge has to offer: riding river swell on a foil or windsurf board, carving fresh lines through the snow, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work. That’s why in 2006, Temira took it upon themselves to create the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Inaccurate predictions had left too many fellow adventurers caught off-guard and in harm’s way. Temira was determined to change that. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and travelers through the Gorge. With their guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and stay safer on the water, snow, and trails. But the story doesn’t end there. Temira also authors the TATAS Facebook page – the Gorge’s premier source for microclimate forecasts. When winter storms, extreme heat, or other hazardous conditions (avalanches on SR-14 and I-84, for example!) threaten, this community lifeline becomes a vital resource for locals and visitors alike, helping to keep everyone safe.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Good morning skiers and snowboarders! Warm, sunny weather continues on the slopes today. And tomorrow. And the next day. And all the way through Wednesday. Models toss out a wider variety of scenarios starting Thursday, but none of those options includes new snow. As a matter of fact, models don’t take temps back below freezing on the slopes until at least the 14th of December. Eeek. Better get your turns in right now while the snowpack is still in great shape!
Sunday will be a friendly, sunny one. The free air freezing level will be 11,000′ in the morning and around 12,000′ in the afternoon with sunshine on the slopes all day. Temps max out in the upper 40s. Wax warm, or at least wax universal. Snow surface: mostly granular at this point, which means we should see some corn in the afternoon. The wind remains light all day: SW 5-10mph. Darn nice day to be on the upper lifts making long cruiser runs!
Monday will be sunny. Difference between Sunday and Monday: less people. No change in the weather. The free air freezing level will be around 11,000′, and temps max out around 50F. That’s warm enough and sunny enough to make Your Mountain Home your temporary office. Wind: SW 5-10mph. Tuesday will be so similar to Monday as to not need a whole paragraph. Same thing Wednesday.
Looking at Thursday, we start with a dry, warm, sunny day. Some models drag some rain in on Thursday night. Others hold off until the weekend to drop the wet stuff on the slopes. The timing is irrelevant to the temps: it’ll be too warm for snow on the slopes. Models predict temps will stay well above freezing at 5000′ through at least the 14th of December. There’s a possible exception at the tail end of one of these systems, but that setup generally doesn’t result in much, if any accumulation. So… we’re hanging on to spring skiing conditions for a while. But remember, we’re still on bonus time – it’s very early in the season still. Snowfall will return! Have a great day on the slopes in the sun!
Gorge Wind Forecast
Hi friends! If you’ve been waiting for a big east wind day, today’s the day you’ve been waiting for. Strong east wind sticks around through at least Wednesday. Uncertainty after that precludes any forecasting. So, for Saturday, expect a big easterly day. Iwash (Rooster) Rock starts with 50mph and fades to 40mph in the afternoon. Stevenson rises to 30-35 mid-morning, holds for a few hours, and fades to 30mph in the afternoon. Viento: 20-25. Home Valley: 25. River flow over the last 24 hours was 88-134kcfs, river temp is 49.8F, and high temp forecast is 42F.
Lesser, but still windy, easterlies persist on Monday. Iwash starts at 40-45 and Stevenson at 25-30. After 1pm, the wind drops to 30-35 at Iwash and 25 at Stevenson. Viento maxes out around 20mph mid-morning. High temp: 43F and sunny in the windy zones. Tuesday starts with 40mph at Iwash and 25-30mph at Stevenson. The wind holds for most of the day. High temp: 43F with sunshine in the windy zones. Wednesday’s forecast currently looks about 10mph lighter than Tuesday’s. Beyond that, there’s quite a bit of uncertainty in the overall weather pattern, so I’ll leave it there for now. Stay safe out there on the river – keep an eye on each other today. It’s cold out there!

Cycling Update
It’s wet and muddy out there. Please don’t ride, or you’ll do significant trail damage. Then peeps have to fix your mess rather than building new trails. Nobody wants that! Everyone wants new trails. Be a good steward, and pick a different activity
Remember: E-bikes are not allowed on USFS non-moto trails. They are allowed on moto trails.
Make Today Awesome!
Whether you’re shredding fresh powder on Mt. Hood, surfing swell on the Columbia, or just enjoying our stunning home… remember that every day here is a gift. Make the most of it.
Have an absolutely epic day out there!
