Gorge Wind Forecast

Continued active weather keep the Gorge westerlies around in gusty and unreliable form. You’ll still manage to find wind here and there and around; plenty to get you on the water the next few days if that’s what you choose.

For Sunday morning, gradients started with .06 and .03. Westerlies were generally in the 10-13 or 14-range. Generally speaking, that’s what we’ll see today; after a period of morning indecision, the wind will settle into the gusty 14-17 range from Stevenson to Rufus. Roosevelt looks like 10-13 at most. River flow is 117kcfs and temp is 67 degrees.

A trough of low pressure moves inland on Monday and weak high pressure builds off the coast in its absence. We’ll see clouds and a potential for light drizzle to Mosier in the morning with westerlies at gusty 8-11 form Stevenson to The Dalles with 5-8 farther east. As things stabilize in the afternoon, the wind picks up to gusty 20-23 from Stevenson all the way out to Roosevelt.

Tuesday’s marine layer looks deep and long-lasting, shifting stronger wind to the east. Morning westerlies will be gusty 12-15 everywhere. Afternoon: gusty 13-16 from Stevenson to Mosier with 24-27 from Rowena to Roosevelt. Wednesday’s forecast is tentatively 22-25.

Road and Mountain Biking

All local trails are snow-free. The only unconfirmed trail I have right now is Huffman Peak. Apparently Boulder Lakes is quite overgrown. Mt. Margaret still has snow. Whoopdee is closed for logging, but Ronnoc trail and the climb out are open. Red Hill Road is supposedly closed for logging. Ride at your own risk. If you’re riding Underwood, please do not park at the trailhead as per request by SDS. Continue past the trailhead 0.5 miles or so to the new parking area. The cows are off Hospital Hill!
