Thank you for using this forecast. Like it? Find it useful? Support it (and me!) by sending some cash my way. Why should you keep doing this when the mountains and beaches are closed? Because my bills don’t stop – I hope you’ll consider subscribing even though the world has ground to a standstill. That’ll keep the forecast going through this crisis, and it’ll mean the forecast is here when we all emerge from our homes. What’s it cost to subscribe? Not $99 a year. Nope. Not $49. Just $12.34 or more gets you a subscription. Click below to subscribe. Thank you!!

If you’re still under a “stay home” order, that’s because your community has circulating coronavirus. If you travel to another county that was able to open, you might be bringing the virus with you. You could be the source of a reinstated “stay home” order for that county. Eeek. You don’t want that on your conscience, do you? Follow the orders of the place you live, not the place you want to go. Under normal times, your city residency brings you benefits that rural folks don’t have. Right here, right now, rural residents have some benefits that city folks don’t. Breathe. Accept these differences. Have patience. Stay home, save lives.

Gorge Wind Forecast
Oregon and Washington are encouraging people to not travel to access recreation, and all land managers and law enforcement are carefully watching to see if people maintain social distancing. If crowding happens, water access will be revoked. If you are local and lucky enough to have water access in your community, please do this: rig, play, leave. Recreate and go home. That’ll help limit the spread of Novel Coronavirus.
Light westerlies with a chance of afternoon thunder is the forecast for Sunday; we’ll have westerlies at 5-10 mph all day long through the Gorge. River flow is 266kcfs and temp is 54 degrees. Monday starts out calm. As offshore high pressure starts a resurgence, westerlies pick up. However, and this is a big caveat, unstable atmospheric conditions could result in thunderstorms, shutting down the wind. Best-case scenario, the one with no thunder, has 12-15 from Stevenson to Mosier with 22-25 from Rowena to Biggs and 12-15 east of there.
Westerlies stick around the rest of the week. Tuesday starts with 13-16 int eh west and 22-25 from Moiser to Arlington. Afternoon: 14-18 in the west and 25-29+ from Rowena (closed) to Threemile (unknown). Models agree on Wednesday being the windiest day of the week. Current forecast is 30-35 for the eastern Gorge. Jones, Sauvie’s, and Coast forecast are on break to discourage travel. Most coastal communities have closed beaches due to hoards of visitors not respecting social distancing guidelines. This forecast will return when those towns feel comfortable reopening to visitors.
