Gorge Wind Forecast

It’s Sunday morning, and it’s a sunny one out there. The 6am gradients were .06 and .05, and offshore high pressure was holding steady. While overnight cooling is going to limit the temp gradient assistance today, we’ll still see a solid round of west wind. Expect up-and-down 5-10 or 12-15 this morning. Strong wind early will be near Viento, Swell, and Rufus eastward. Don’t get drawn out east, because the wind will shift west this afternoon. We’ll have 22-25 from Stevenson to The Dalles this afternoon with 5-10 in the eastern Gorge. River flow is 68,000cfs and temp is 65 degrees.

Monday’s a transition day as a heat low slides upwards from the south. That’ll eventually set up offshore flow. Models agree that the day will start with E 10-13 (or less), just in the western Gorge. By the afternoon, depending on what you like, we’ll have calm wind or W 5-8. Tuesday maxes out at E 15-20 near Stevenson and E 20-25 near Rooster Rock. Wednesday and Thursday’s forecasts look like E 15-20. Models disagree wildly on what happens starting Friday.

BONUS: Jones Sunday: 10-13. Monday: nope. Tuesday: nope. Sauvie’s Sunday: 13-16+. Monday: 18-21. Tuesday: 17-20. Coast (north/central/south). Sunday: 5-10/15-20/30+, NW swell 5′ at 8 seconds. Monday: 20-25/25-30/30+, NW 5′ @ 8. Tuesday: 20-25/25-30/25-30, W 6′ @ 11.

Road and Mountain Biking

BROWN POW. Get some while it’s here! Whoopdee and Hospital Hill and Underwood have reopened. Post Canyon motorized use has also reopened. Other motorized trails on Hood River County lands (Pine Mont, for example) remain closed to motorized use.

Upcoming Events

One way to take advantage of the improved dirt is to help build trails – there’s a work party on Hospital Hill this morning at 10 at the top of the Roll Baby Roll trail. There’s an all-sports swap meet this morning from 8 to noon at Luhr Jensen in Hood River, there’s a free yoga class at Samadhi at 9, and there’s pickup rugby at the Hood River Marina at 11.

If we look ahead to next week, Goldendale has the equestrian Ranch and Trail challenge on Wednesday. Pocket Park in The Dalles has the Healthy Lung and Heart Dart footrace on Saturday with 3k, 5k, and 10k categories.
