Gorge Wind Forecast
Not much to report today in the way of wind other than some light easterlies. People out fishing and road biking and flat-water paddling will be happy. Westerlies return late on Sunday and rise to the nuking zone (or close to it) on Monday. A couple more days of west wind gives way to a warm and likely calm period from the middle of next week on. I’ll be on vacation for a week starting next Friday. Our friends at iWind/iKite will still be forecasting for you since there are multiple thems and only one of me!
Looking at Saturday, we see high pressure all across the land and a heat low lurking in the Willy Valley. This leads to midday easterlies at 13-16 between Rooster Rock and Viento. The wind falls to 7-10 in the afternoon. East of Viento, the wind will be light all day. River flow is 132kcfs, river temp is 69F, and high temp forecast for Hood River is 89F.
Sunday starts with light easterly gradients and nearly-calm wind all through the Gorge. In the middle of the afternoon, the wind builds to 14-17 from Stevenson to Mosier. Evening westerlies build to 20-23 between Stevenson and The Dalles. High temp: 87F.
A deep, cool trough pushes into the west side Sunday night into Monday morning. Dawn Patrol is on the docket at 26-30+ from Viento to Mosier with 24-27 to Arlington. Afternoon wind rises to 29-33 from Viento to Threemile. Readings at The Wall will likely top 35 for periods of time. Stevenson may stay cloudy with gusty 20-25. If that sort of strong wind is your thing, Monday is your only shot. Get it! Tuesday: 23-26. Wednesday: 15-18. Thursday: light easterlies, most likely, but that’s a long ways out to be forecasting. Enjoy!
