Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

It’s Sunday morning, and it’s a very messy one up on Mt. Hood. Super strong wind, super-thick ice on the lifts, and lots for the resorts to do before they can open. Continued snowfall through sunday afternoon gives way to clear sky for the next few days. Models disagree on the next weather system; anywhere between Wednesday night and Friday morning is the current forecast.

For Sunday, expect delay starts at the resorts as wind speeds keep lifts from running and employees attempt to deice the lifts. The snow level will be 1500′ all day, falling down near the surface overnight. Precip: 0.4” WV during the day, for 4-6” of fresh powder. A trace falls overnight. Wind: WNW 50 early, NW 30 in the afternoon, and NE 15 overnight.

Monday looks clear and sunny. Free air freezing level 0′ early, 1000′ in the afternoon, and back to 0′ overnight. Wind will be NE 10-15 all day and N 15-20 overnight. Tuesday looks either sunny or high overcast, or maybe both. Free air freezing level: 0′ early, 6000′ in the afternoon, and 9000′ overnight. Wind: N 15-20 becoming NW 15 in the afternoon, and W 20 overnight. Wednesday starts out clear, but models disagree on the forecast starting in the afternoon. So… no forecast beyond Tuesday morning.

By this evening, we’ll be down to W 10-13. Monday looks like E 10-15 early and E 20-25 in the afternoon. Tuesday starts with E 20-25 and backs off to calm wind later in the day.

Road and Mountain Biking

Wet, messy, and slopping in most places. Syncline is your only option, and a good option it is. Today, however, it will be windy, so keep that in mind. You could try some road biking or gravel grinding…
