Sunday: another fine day for gardening and road biking…

Thank you for using this forecast. Like it? Find it useful? Support it (and me!) by sending some cash my way. Why should you keep doing this when the mountains and beaches are closed? Because my bills don’t stop – I hope you’ll consider subscribing even though the world has ground to a standstill. That’ll…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

Gorge Wind Forecast

Rock Creek in Mosier is now closed to anyone who is not a resident of zip code 97040. This is due to visitors not practicing social distancing at the beach. All Oregon (Viento, Rowena) and Washington (Doug’s, Hatchery) State Parks are closed at this time. The Hood River Marina and Event Site are closed. The Army Corps has closed all parks (The Wall, Rufus, Roosevelt). Swell City is closed. Please do not come here to do wind sports. If you’re local and getting on the water somehow, follow Maui rules: rig quickly, get in the water, and leave as soon as you are done. No hanging out. Maintain at least six feet space on land and on the water. Do not place yourself directly upwind or downwind of anyone. Don’t go harder than 50%, and keep your focus at 100%. This is not the time to get injured.

Light west wind starts the day on Sunday. Gradients at 7am were .04 and .01, in case you were wondering. We’ll see the light wind hold until early afternoon, when it will slowly build. Expect 10-13 from Stevenson to Mosier around 2pm and 13-16 from Stevenson to The Dalles after 5pm. River flow is 203kcfs and temp is 52 degrees.

Monday starts with light westerlies and rain in the west. After the weather system moves through, the wind picks up to 12-15 in the west under partly cloudy sky. From Avery to Boardman, westerlies rise to gusty 24-28 after 11am or so. Tuesday starts calm and holds through early afternoon. After 2pm or so, the wind picks up to W 10-13 from Stevenson to Viento. Wednesday’s currently looking like W 25-29 east of The Dalles.

Jones, Sauvie’s, and Coast forecast are on break to discourage travel.

Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

All the mountains are closed, the forest is closed, and neither in-bounds nor out-of-bounds snowsports are available at this time. Some of you will be tempted to go out backcountry skiing. Take a look at this sobering article about a recent BC rescue and consider carefully if you want to put others at risk. Remember, Timberline, Skibowl, and Meadows are all closed to uphill traffic at this time. This is to comply with Kate Brown’s executive orders. It’s the law, folks. Obey it!

The Mt. Hood Weather forecast will continue until May 1st, after which it will hibernate for the rest of the summer unless something unusual happens in the hills. For Sunday, expect a clear day followed by a drizzly night. The freezing level will be 6500′ in the morning, 8000′ int eh afternoon, and 6500′ overnight. About 0.3” rain falls overnight. Wind: WSW 15-20 early, SW 15-25 midday, SW 30-45 in the evening, and WSW 40 after midnight.

Light rain continues on Monday. The snow level will be 6500′ early, 7000′ in the evening, and 10,000′ overnight. About 0.4” rain falls during the day. Wind: WSW 40 in the morning, W 40-45 in the afternoon, and WSW 20-25 after midnight.

Tuesday looks sunny in the morning and cloudy in the afternoon. The freezing level will be 10,000′ in the morning and 11,000′ from afternoon on through the evening. No precip. Wind: WSW 20-24 in the morning, SW 10-20 in the afternoon, and SW 20-30 overnight. More rain arrives Wednesday night followed by a chance at a few inches of snow on Thursday.

Hood River Weather Forecast

Other trails remain closed: SDS (Underwood, Whoopdee), and Kreps (Hospital Hill) lands. DNR land (Nestor) is closed per the DNR website and a little tiny sign at the bottom of the Nestor trail.
