Sunday 9/8. Gorge wind. Events. Dirt. Water.

Thank you for using this forecast! Your donations keep this forecast going – nobody but you pays me to do this. So why is it here? This forecast started as a way for me to find better wind in the summer and better snow in the winter. Seemed silly to keep that information to myself,…

Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

This forecast started as a way for me to find better wind in the summer and better snow in the winter. Seemed silly to keep that information to myself, so it’s here for you too (almost) every day. Donate to keep it going! Make a $12 or larger donation by clicking on the sun and you’re on the email list for a year. No dealing with the twice-yearly pledge drive. Random Morning Thoughts
All this brown pow made my legs really tired.

Wind forecast

The light wind continues in the Gorge this morning, but by this afternoon, an approaching weather system will bump the westerlies up to 17-20 from Stevenson to Mosier. We’ll see a bit of leftover west wind tomorrow morning, light wind midday, and west wind at 13-15 late.

If you really want to do wind sports, head to the coast. It’ll be 20-25 from Manzanita south today, with a 5′ swell at 10 seconds. Tomorrow at the coast, you’ll get 25+ from Oceanside south with a 5′ swell at 9 seconds.

Dirt News

Judging by the crowds at the bottom of Post Canyon Road yesterday, the mountain bikers got the memo that the dirt was amazing. Apparently nobody got the shuttle memo, because there were only two cars of mtb shuttlers up at Kingsley at 11am. (BTW, Hood River Adventures will shuttle you for $10 – 400-1216, and on weekdays, the CAT bus will take you to Binns Hill Staging Area for … I think it’s $3 – 386-4020) But you moto folks, where were you yesterday? I saw maybe 5 dirt bikes and two quads yesterday. The NW Area (aka Binns Hill/Kingsley) is OPEN to OHV use as of Friday night.

Speaking of trail news, just a reminder that Hospital Hill, Whoopdee, Puke Hill, and all SDS/Longview/Kreps lands are still closed to all uses – that’s biking, hiking, running, and anything else, until the landowners decide fire season is over on their properties. So please respect their wishes and play anywhere else.

Other important Gorge news

In other news today, the Civil War encampment continues at the Ft. Dalles Museum, the Hood River Fly-in continues at WAAAM, and the Oregon Enduro series continues today at Timberline and Skibowl. In Hood River, it’s the Rural Rampage bike race, benefiting the Hood River School District. Also, if you are a whitewater rafter or a kayaker, let it be known that the Tieton is in, flowing at 1700cfs.

Have an awesome day today!

Temira
