Gorge Wind Forecast
You may have noticed that there’s not much wind out there this morning. There’s even less wind than yesterday’s model runs predicted, and today’s model runs have backed off too. As a heat low sits over the Willamette Valley today, and heat builds in the desert, gradients will slacken. You could try fishing – the fall Chinook and Steelhead runs have started, with 2000 or so of each over Bonneville yesterday. Anyway, I digress. Expect east wind at 15-20 near Stevenson and Rooster Rock from mid-morning on through early afternoon. The wind will then fade to light easterlies.
Monday sees a heat low over the Willamette Valley once again with instability in the air to the east of the Cascades. That heat low should start to shift eastward late in the day. That will turn the flow onshore. So, we’ll start Monday will easterlies at 15-20 or so near Stevenson and Rooster Rock. The wind will fade dramatically after noon. Sometime late in the afternoon or early evening, the wind should become westerly, but just west 5 or so.
The thermal low moves eastward on Tuesday, dropping the high temps about 5 degrees and setting up stronger onshore flow. An additional factor is an approaching low pressure system offshore. We’ll start Tuesday with westerlies at 10-13 between Stevenson and The Dalles with 5-10 further east. The wind will slowly build through noon, perhaps hitting 12-15 by midday. As the offshore system approaches around mid-afternoon, we’ll see the wind jump to gusty 21-24 between Cascade Locks and The Dalles.
Wednesday currently looks like 26-30 between Cascade Locks and Rufus and the long-range-not-reliable forecast for Thursday currently calls for 22-25.

Random Morning Thoughts
One of the things that makes personal growth so tricky is the fact that we have blind spots. It’s possible to find them by asking others to point them out, but that can feel scary and embarrassing and painful. One thing I’ve found helpful is to examine my behavior and notice situations where my actions don’t meet with my expectations. I can then examine the motivations and beliefs that create these unskillful behaviors.
You too can do this!
Think of the last time you did something you regretted. Maybe you yelled at someone, insulted them, hit “send” when you shouldn’t have, disengaged from the world, etc. It could be anything. What does your action say about what you believe? Need a concrete example? Okay… perhaps your first instinct when you’re having a bad day is to isolate yourself. Perhaps what you really want is company, but you don’t reach out to friends.
Examining this, you might find that you expect people to ridicule you if you reach out. Perhaps you expect to be rejected if you ask. Perhaps your core belief is that nobody will be there for you when you’re hurting. It could be anything, really, but once you see this blind spot, you can decide to take a different action in the future. And by taking a different action and having experiences that counter your core belief, you’ll change who you are.
Your mind plays awesome tricks on you. You can outsmart it. It just takes a little effort. Have an awesome day.
Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 27 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

Light east wind goes to light west wind late in the day. No rainbows. Tuesday looks cooler and less smoky. Temps will be in the mid 60’s early and low 90’s in the afternoon. Moderate west wind. No rainbows.

Road and Mountain Biking
Whoopdee, Hospital Hill, and all other SDS and Kreps lands are closed from today on through the end of fire season. That’s when “significant rain” falls and the fire danger is considered over. Also currently closed: Dethman Ridge Road at Odell Creek and Highway 30 at Chenoweth Bridge. The second one has a bypass for bikes and pedestrians in place along The Dalles waterfront trail.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
The Mt. Hood snow forecast is currently on vacation. It will stay on vacation until I deem it to be close enough to winter that we need a Mt. Hood snow forecast. Be safe out there on the snow this summer!
Have an awesome day today!
