Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

MT HOOD WEATHER FORECAST

Hey skiers and snowboarders! My what a couple of weeks we have had! Mt. Hood picked up 19” of additional snowfall over the last 24 hours, and the resorts are buried right now. Expect limited grooming today, buried park features, and deep, fresh, somewhat heavy fresh snow. Get it today. Drizzle is in the cards tomorrow, and that’s followed by much warmer weather Monday-Wednesday. After that: right back into winter. Heading up today? Expect the parking lots to fill. Consider carpooling or taking public transport, and please don’t park at Teacup unless you’re recreating there – they have a big race today and will need their parking for Nordic skiers.

Today’s Mt. Hood weather starts out snowy and windy, but it’ll turn bluebird and much calmer midday. Snow conditions: dense new snow that’s almost powder, and packed powder groom. The snow level will be around 2500′ early, 3500′ this afternoon, and 4500′ overnight. Temps at 5000′ start in the mid 20s and rise to 31F or so. After a dry day, light snow returns in the evening and switches to snain or mixed precip overnight. Just 0.1” water equivalent (WE) is forecast overnight. Wind: WNW 30-35 early (enough to take out a few lifts), W 15 mid-morning, WSW 25 this evening, and W 35 after midnight.

sunday’s mt hood weather

If you like rain and strong wind, Sunday is the day for you. That’s probably… nobody? The snow level starts around 4500′ and quickly rises to 7000′ before rising just a bit more overnight. Temps start around 33F and rise to 40F. About 0.4” rain is forecast during the day, and another 0.2” rain is forecast overnight as a Pineapple Express takes aim north of us and just clips the Mt. Hood area. Given the wind, rain totals could exceed the forecast. Wind: W 35 early, W 45 midday (enough to take out some lifts), and W 40 overnight.

extended mt hood weather forecast

Orographic drizzle Monday morning gives way to partly high overcast sky in the afternoon. The snow level will be around 7500′ early and will rise to 9000′ after midnight. Just 0.1” rain is forecast. Temps will be near 40F early and will rise to the mid or upper 40s overnight. Wind: W 40 early falling to WSW 15-20 in the afternoon. After Wednesday: we’re back to wet weather with a good chance that the moisture will fall as snow. See you on the slopes!

GORGE WIND FORECAST

THE LOGO FOR THE GOFOIL COMPANY

Hi friends! Not much happening over the next few days – marginal and unreliable westerlies are forecast. Next best chance is next Thursday or Friday, but ensembles are far from certain about this. Saturday started with pressures of 30.06/29.99/29.94 for onshore gradients of 0.07/0.05, which would be just enough, but they’re forecast to drop. We should see a few hours of W 18-22ish from Avery to Boardman before the wind falls to 11-14 out east. Stevenson stays under 10mph today. Between Viento and Doug’s, we’ll have 13-16 to start, but the wind will drop below 10mph before long. River flow over the last 24 hours was 80-171kcfs, river temp is 44.4F, and high temp forecast is 52F with partly cloudy sky.

Sunday may see a short period of 15mph or so from Viento to the Hatch, but it won’t last. Drizzle permeates the Gorge all day, and the wind drops to 5mph or less. High temp: 57F and mostly cloudy. Monday might bring a morning burst of upper teens to low 20s from Avery to Arlington, but areas west of Avery will likely be under 10mph all day. In the afternoon, the entire Gorge drops to 10-13mph or less. High temp: 66F and partly cloudy. Tuesday: easterlies at 20-25mph. Wednesday: nothing (disappointing after yesterday’s deterministic GFS had strong westerlies). Thursday and Friday: some hint of westerlies, but no sign of a big day. But hey, it’s going to be warm Monday through Wednesday – I bet you can find something fun to do! Have a great day!

HYPERLOCAL WEATHER FORECAST FOR THE COLUMBIA GORGE

THE DALLES, HOOD RIVER, WHITE SALMON, TROUT LAKE, STEVENSON, CASCADE LOCKS, PARKDALE, ODELL, HUSUM, BZ, MILL A, WILLARD, GOLDENDALE, RUFUS, ARLINGTON, boardman

Good morning, neighbors! I got a couple birthday parties to go to, so I need to keep it quick! Mostly dry weather today gives way to rain into early Monday. A muggy Monday gives way to a warm and sunny Tuesday and Wednesday. After that: back to the wet stuff.

saturday

Saturday kicks off with a few lingering showers, but many places, like my place, have turned partly cloudy. Temps rise to the low 50s today with west wind at 15mph or so east of The Dalles all day and west wind at 10mph or so to the west of The Dalles. Drizzle returns late tonight.

sunday

Expect drizzly weather all the way to Arlington and beyond on Sunday. Rain will be moderate to heavy west of Mosier and east of Arlington through 2pm. The Dalles, being sneaky, might just stay mostly dry on Sunday thanks to rain shadow effects. Same for other locations in the shadow of the Cascade Crest – south Wasco, Sherman. But don’t expect to actually see that shadow or yours – the sky will be mostly cloudy. Wind: 15mph early fading to calm in the afternoon down along the river. Windy in the higher hills.

extended gorge weather forecast

Monday: mostly places will be mostly dry. Exceptions: Parkdale, South Wasco, and Sherman Counties. Parkdale could see intermittent sprinkles all day. SW/Sherman get some drizzle in the afternoon. Otherwise… partly high overcast with temps near 50 to start and in the mid 60s to finish. Light west wind is forecast. Tuesday looks awesome: sunny and 72 degrees. I refused to discuss anything beyond Tuesday. Let’s finish up on that warm and sunny note. Safe travels. -TATAS
