MT. HOOD SNOW FORECAST
Hey skiers and snowboarders! It’s a blustery day up there on Mt. Hood, and there’s a possibility some lifts could be affected today. But hey, we’ve got new snow: an inch or two down low and half a foot up high. Just trace amounts are expected over the next week or so. Get it now if you want it. Starting Monday afternoon, we’re back into a warm/sunny pattern for a while.
Let’s look at Saturday: as I was writing this, the NW wind was wreaking havoc. It’s supposed to drop about 5mph around sunrise, but strong wind will stick around all day and probably affect lifts. Today’s snow level starts around 2500′ and falls to 1000-1500′ in the afternoon. We’re just expecting orographic flurries – no measurable snowfall, and if you get away from the highest slopes, you should see sun breaks. Wind today: NW 30-40mph all day fading to NW 20-30mph overnight. Snow surface today will be a mix of frozen granular and packed powder with some areas of powder in the wind-favored (leeward) areas.
Liking this forecast?
A few orographic flurries are possible on Sunday morning, but there should also be plenty of sunshine. The free air freezing level will be around 1500′ all day. Just a trace of snow is forecast. Wind: NW 20-30 in the morning, light northerly in the afternoon, and E 10 overnight. Lifts other than the highest (Cascade, etc.) shouldn’t be bothered by Sunday’s wind.
Monday starts clear and cold, mostly due to radiational cooling, and it ends warm and sunny. Temps max out in the mid to upper 30s at 5000′, and the freezing level rises from 500′ to 9000′. Wind: E 10 in the morning, NE 10 in the afternoon, and light/variable overnight. Tuesday and Wednesday look warm and sunny. A (probably dry) system is forecast to swing through on Thursday with colder weather. After that: lots of range in the models, but most likely cold and dry. Have a great day on the slopes today. Bundle up to protect yourself from the wind!

GORGE WIND FORECAST
Hey friends! Hopefully all of you had an awesome day out there on the river yesterday. Looks like we have another one on tap today, a calm day tomorrow, and a return to easterlies next week. But wait… models are hinting at the possibility of a west wind day next Thursday. Fingers crossed! Today, Saturday, starts with pressures of 30.55/30.44/30.36 with 30.74(!) offshore. This gives us 0.11 (pdx-dls) and 0.08 (dls-psc). With numbers like that and clouds west of Hood River, I’d expect everywhere from Stevenson to Rufus to fire up today. Models suggest we’ll see peak speed late morning into early afternoon: 23-26 from Viento to Doug’s with 22-25 at Rufus and 18-22 at Arlington. Stevenson: cloudy and gusty with 15-18 or so. Models knock Avery-Arlington down to 18-22 this afternoon and give us 21-24 from Stevenson to Doug’s. River flow over the last 24 hours was 111-143kcfs, river temp is 43.70F, and high temp forecast is 44F with partly cloudy sky in the west and sun out east.
High pressure builds inland on Sunday. A light westerly start gives way to a calm afternoon. High temp: 45F with clouds early and sun late. Easterlies return on Monday at 25-30mph at Iwash (Rooster) Rock and 15-20mph at Stevenson. Stronger easterlies are forecast Tuesday and Wednesday. That may be followed by a Hatch day on Thursday as the next weather system swings through from the NW. Still way too far out to make plans, but certainly pencil something in just in case. Have a great day out there today. See you at the Hatch!

TEMIRA’S AWESOME TRAVEL ADVISORY SERVICE (DETAILED GORGE WEATHER FORECAST)
Good morning, neighbors! Mostly-dry weather is forecast most of the time for most of the upcoming week. Beyond that, things continue to look probably dry and possibly colder but probably not cold enough for me to break out my thrift store fur coats.
Just FYI, there was a rainbow woven in to this morning’s sunrise. Thanks, Ma Nature!
TODAY
On to the forecast: sun east of Hood River, clouds west of Hood River, partly cloudy sky in the middle today. With a few showers possible, rainbows are also possible. As a matter of fact, I SEE ONE RIGHT NOW! When there’s a rainbow first thing in the morning, that means you should make it a gay day. Celebrate whatever part of you identifies as queer or other-than. You too are as awesome as a daybreak rainbow! Westerlies kick up to 20-30mph all the way from Viento to Bob’s Texas T-bone this morning. They drop to 15-20mph east of Amayah’s this afternoon and hold in the west. High temps: mid 40s.
SUNDAY
Thanks to radiational cooling, wet roads at all elevations in clear or partly cloudy areas have a shot at freezing tonight. Sunday starts off cloudy in the west and sunny in the east with the freezing level around 1500′. Rest of the day: slowly decreasing clouds, slowly increasing sun, and highs in the mid 40s along the river. Morning westerlies give way to a calm afternoon. It’s going to be a fucking awesome day!
Speaking of things that are f’ing awesome… a friend sent me the “full bush in a bikini” Tik Tok this morning. I wasn’t on Tik Tok until yesterday when the Supreme Court made it clear they’re open to banning it. GET IT WHILE YOU CAN! Anyway, you’ll recall (or maybe you’ve repressed) that we discussed pube-scaping last week. Disregard my previous message. You should now sport full 1973 down there and let it hang out. Luxurious, soft, cushy, textured, and natural, just like nature intended. It’s the organic, unprocessed, raw food version of crotch. I actually saw an example of this last summer at the Waterfront Park, and I gotta say, I was IMPRESSED. Sorry this forecast is so late, but I’ve been looking for an itsy-bitsy-teenie-weenie-little-white-bikini to complement my 1973. You should too.
MONDAY AND BEYOND
Nothing returns to the sky (but not your pants) Monday morning. It burns off Monday afternoon. Sun, yes! Temps rise to 40 or so. Easterlies pick up to 15-30mph in the usual places. Copy/paste this forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday, there’s about a 40% chance of a little bit of rain, but models are far from certain. Even more uncertain weather is forecast starting around the 20th: model are vacillating and wavering about the idea of colder weather. Some models also bring in precipitation in that time frame. Quite frankly, there’s way too much uncertainty to be forecasting or worrying or anthing-else-ing about that time frame. Safe travels. -TATAS
