Gorge Wind Forecast

Westerlies stick around for another four days, setting you up for a scenario where you may have to choose to take a rest day! Easterlies likely make an appearance during the middle of next week along with hotter weather.

Saturday’s going to be a very windy day. Gradients started at .15 pdx-dls and .04 dls-psc. Don’t you worry – those eastern Gorge gradients will pick up too. You’ll be able to chase those Rufus unicorns today! We’ll start the morning with 24-27 from Viento to Mosier. Rowena starts in the upper teens. Other locations (Stevenson and the eastern launches) start the day at 13-16 or so. By late morning, westerlies climb to 27-31 from Stevenson to Rufus with 20-24 near Stevenson and Arlington. Afternoon wind will likely drop near Swell and pick up to 27-31 as far east as Arlington. There’s a decent chance of 30-34 between Rowena and Rufus. River flow is 119kcfs and temp is 69 degrees. High temp: 75.

Strong offshore high pressure sticks around Sunday, but temps across the Cascades nearly equalize. An approaching warm front in the afternoon further disrupts the wind field. The day starts with 14-17 from Viento to Hood River and 7-10 east and west of there. As temps heat up all across the region, the wind drops midday to less than 10mph. Afternoon westerlies return at 20-23 from Stevenson to Mosier and 13-16 near Rowena. You’ll find light and variable wind east of there in the afternoon. High temp: 78.

Monday sees a warm front swing through the region. This starts the day with clouds pretty much everywhere and some light drizzle west of Underwood. Morning wind will be gusty 15-18 from Viento to Avery. Afternoon wind builds to gusty 22-26 from Stevenson to The Dalles. Given the mugginess, it’ll be a fine day to be in the water. High temp: 77. Gusty westerlies in the teens stick around Tuesday, but just from Stevenson to Hood River. It appears we may see easterlies Wednesday and Thursday, but models are far from certain about this. For now, we’ll call it warmer and keep an eye on it!

Due to crowding and unsafe conditions at Port beaches, parking restrictions now apply Friday through Sunday. Remember: crowds lead to closures. Kiting is no longer allowed at the Marina – it has become unsafe for other user groups. Lyle is now off limits unless you can get to the sandbar without crossing the RR tracks. If you cross the tracks, you will be ticketed. Lyle: loved to death. Roosevelt: still closed due to wind damage from earlier this year. Mosier is only available to residents of 97040 (Mosier).

Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

Mt. Hood Meadows allows hiking within the permit area. However, you will need to park outside their parking lots. Timberline is open for lift-serve skiing with exemplary guidelines for protecting guests and staff from the transmission of novel coronavirus. Please read their guidelines and rules here. Well done, T-Line! The Mt. Hood weather forecast will be on vacation unless something interesting happens in the weather up there. Timberline is allowing uphill access outside the permit area on the climbers’ trail only.

Have an awesome day!
