Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

Random Morning Thoughts

Generally speaking, personal growth is a conscious process. Pursuing growth allows us to expand our options – we can experience a wider range of emotions, greater capacity for resolving conflict, and deeper connections with others.

One thing to keep in mind as we grow older and wiser is that, despite our growth, we still possess all the neural networks from earlier stages of life. That means we can easily slip into earlier patterns of relating and behaving. It’s only natural that we’ll backslide, especially under pressure.

Rather than beating ourselves up when we handle a situation in a way that makes us feel ashamed, we can hold ourselves with compassion. Reverting to “less mature” ways of interacting under stress is only natural, and all we can do is apologize and commit to staying more present and aware the next time a similar situation arises.

You’re only human, duh. Be compassionate with yourself. Have an awesome day.

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 40 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. White Sprinter Van of the Day

Road and Mountain Biking

If yesterday was dry (it was) and today is dry (it will be), then you can expect good dirt on everything that’s not covered in snow: Syncline, Whoopdee, Post Canyon, Hospital Hill (cows are out, so NO DOGS), Columbia Hills (wildflower central), Kitchen Sink, Sandy Ridge, and the lower parts of Nestor. There’s a trail work party at 9am today meeting at Binn’s Hill Staging Area. In road bike news, today looks amazing. The Hood River Valley orchards are in bloom, and there are wildflowers everywhere else. Mt. View Cycles has a shop road ride for women leaving the shop at 9am.

Upcoming Events

Up on Mt. Hood today, you’ll want to ride early before the snow turns sticky. Meadows has the Pond Skim today and the Ram’s Head Randonee tomorrow, and Timberline has the Airblaster Board Games today and the Overlook Film Festival all weekend. The mountain, by the way, is expecting an inch of rain tonight, which should actually improve the snow quality for tomorrow.

Other events today include a trail work party meeting at Binn’s Hill Staging area in Post Canyon at 9 and a work party at Sandy Ridge. There’s free yoga in Spanish at 7 at Flow Yoga, a trail run in Post Canyon at 8, and an OMSI-sponsored Star Party at Rooster Rock tonight.

Tomorrow is the Bear Springs Trap mountain bike race, and there are also three free yoga classes tomorrow.

Have an awesome day today!

Temira
