Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

The Forecast

Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

Sunshine and rain are all we’ve got for the next few days. For Saturday, expect sun all day. The freezing level will bounce around a bit with cold air in the east and warm air in the west. Generally speaking, the free air freezing level (FAF) will be 10,000′ falling to 9000′ overnight. Wind: E 30 in the morning, E 25 in the afternoon, and E 20 overnight. Sunday may pick up some scattered high clouds, but it’ll be mostly sunny. The FAF will be 9000′ early and 8000′ later. Wind: E 20 in the morning, S 5-10 in the afternoon, and S 10-20 overnight.

Monday starts clear and quickly turns rain. The rain eases up in the afternoon, and the sky turns clear overnight. The snow level will be 8000′ in the morning, 7000′ in the afternoon, and 6000′ after midnight. About 0.3” rain is forecast during the day and up to 0.1” overnight. Wind: S 10-20 in the morning, SW 15-25 in the afternoon, and SW 5-10 overnight. Tuesday will be clear in the morning and high overcast later with a trace of rain overnight. Temps look to cool off and perhaps bring snow later in the week.  

Gorge Wind Forecast

Easterlies are the plan for the next few days. For Saturday, you’ll find 30-35 at Rooster. 25-30 at Stevenson, and 20-25 at Viento all day. Easterlies pick up to 10-15 in select locations east of Swell this afternoon. Sunday starts with 30-40 at Rooster, 20-25 at Stevenson, and 15-20+ at Viento. The wind climbs to 30-35 at Stevenson midday and then falls to 20-25 from Rooster to Viento in the afternoon. East of there: light easterlies all day. Monday starts with 30-40 at Rooster and 25-30 at Stevenson. This holds through early afternoon an d then drops to 20-25. East of Viento: calm wind.  

Coast, Jones, Coast

Done until spring, unless there’s an obvious Coast or Sauvie’s or Jones day.  

Hood River Weather Forecast

Clear sky sticks around all day. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and mid 50’s later. Light to moderate easterlies. No rainbows. Sunday will be sunny. Temps will be in the low-mid 30’s early and low 50’s later. Light easterlies. No rainbows. Monday starts clear before sunrise and quickly turns cloudy and drizzly. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and upper 40’s later. Light and variable wind. 8% chance of rainbows.

Cycling

SDS, Kreps, and DNR lands have all reopened. Regulated use closure has ended and motorized use is allowed on moto trails. Be aware of recent snowfall about 4500′ or so and plan your rides accordingly.
