Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

We’re looking at several more warm and sunny days on the mountain, but the GFS and Euro are both suggesting this pattern will break down by late Thursday or late Friday. Some disagreement there, but definitely consensus on the end of the dry period. Until then…

For Saturday, we’ll have a sunny day on Mt. Hood. The free air freezing level will be 11,000′, and 5000′ temps will max out around 50 degrees. Wind will be SW 10-15. Sunday will be sunny. The FAF will be 12,000′, and max temps will be about 50 degrees. South wind at 10mph. Monday looks similar to Sunday. Temps will drop about 5 degrees on Tuesday, but it will still be warm and sunny on the mountain.

As of right now, it looks like the end of this dry spell will come in the form of light rain at ski resort base elevations. The extended forecast has 5000′ temps fluctuating between below-freezing and above-freezing, but we’re really going to need to get closer to work out all the details.

Random Morning Thoughts

Conflict is difficult for many of us. For many people, engaging in conflict feels vulnerable. A natural response to this is to be on guard, to be angry, to be ready to fight. When we approach a situation in this state, the person we’re engaging with will feel our energy. They will bring up their own guard, and the situation may escalate.

In a counterintuitive twist, we can often minimize the potential pain conflict resolution by approaching it with open vulnerability (unless we are dealing with an abuser, in which case this is not the right approach). By staying open and as relaxed as possible, we can talk, rather than blame, explore rather than accuse.

Next time you feel yourself getting tense and agitated in conflict, take a few breaths. Slow down. See if you can’t remain open to the other person’s perspective. The calmer you can be, the calmer you both can be. Have an awesome day.

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist, but I am seeing clients at this time. In the meantime, I am your weather forecaster. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

Gorge Wind Forecast

For Saturday, expect east wind at 50-60+ all day near Rooster Rock with 30-40 near Stevenson and 20-25 near Viento. Same goes for Sunday. The Rooster Rock easterlies will start out at 50mph and drop to 40mph on Monday. Tuesday looks like 25-30.

Gorge Weather Forecast

I’m not going outside, because I know the Nothing is there, and it will suck my soul away. We’ll have Nothing today. Temps will be in the low 30’s this morning and mid 30’s later. East wind. No rainbows. Models indicate sunshine Sunday afternoon. Fingers crossed. Temps will be in the low 30’s early and upper 30’s later. East wind. No rainbows. Same thing on Monday, minus the sun.

Road and Mountain Biking

Even though we have the Nothing, you’ll want to stay away from trails exposed to open air – they’ll still thaw, leaving your bike coated in mud and your tracks damaging the trails. To make up for it, you can head to Kickstand Coffee tonight to participate in an HRATS fundraiser, or you can go to another fundraiser on the 14th at Double Mountain. If you decide to road ride or gravel grind, watch out for icy areas in the fog zone. Speaking of mixed surfaces, the Cold Lap is at 3pm at Dirty Fingers every Saturday.

Upcoming Events

For Saturday, there’s a trail run in Post Canyon at 8am. There’s Contra dancing at the Grange at 7pm (potluck at 5:30pm), and the HRATS silent auction at 7pm at Kickstand. On Sunday, there’s three free yoga classes: 9am at Samadhi, 4pm at Pure Yoga in The Dalles, and 6pm at Pure Yoga in Hood River. There’s also all-ages pickup touch rugby at the Hood River Marina at 11am.

Have an awesome day today!
