Gorge Wind Forecast

It’s Saturday morning, and given the forecast, this one will do for both Saturday and Sunday. Trust me on this. For Saturday, we’ll have a day that turns sunnier and windier. Same goes on Sunday, minus the morning rain. Light westerlies continue on Monday followed by a windier day on Tuesday as a weather system moves inland.

For Saturday, the morning will be light and variable and cloudy and sprinkly. Models disagree on the afternoon wind. Predictions range from light westerly to gusty 12-15 from Stevenosn to The Dalles. Let’s go with 10-13 from Viento to The Dalles and 7-10 near Stevenson after 1pm. Sunday starts out with light westerlies and the potential for a gorgeous sunrise. As a frontal system approaches in the afternoon, the wind will pick up to 13-16 from Stevenson to The Dalles.

Monday brings on-and-off sprinkles in the west wind westerlies at 10-13 from Stevenson to Rufus. Tuesday’s forecast currently calls for gusty 24-27, probably east of Hood River, but possibly everywhere for a short period mid-afternoon.

BONUS: Jones Saturday-Monday: no. Sauvie’s Saturday: 13-16+. Sunday-Monday: no. Coast (norht/central/south). Saturday: 15-20/15-20/20-25, W swell 8′ at 10 seconds. Sunday: S10-15/LTV/N20-25, W 8′ @ 14. Monday: SW5/LTV/N25-30, W 6′ @ 14.

Random Morning Thoughts

Mt. Hood Mountain Weather Forecast

Timberline received a bit of snow yesterday, but the rain washed it all away at Lodge elevation. SAD! For Saturday, it’ll be rainy with wet snowfall mixed in this afternoon for a short period. Snow level 6500′ early, 5500′ this afternoon, free air freezing level 7000′ overnight. Total precip will be about .1”. No accumulation of snow. Wind NW 10 early, N 25 afternoon, NNW 15 overnight.

Sunday looks high overcast in the morning with light rain from 5pm onward. Snow level: 7000′ early rising to 10,000′ after midnight. Total precip overnight: 1/4” rain. Wind: NNW 15 early rising to NW 20-25 in the afternoon. Monday looks rainy. Snow level 10,000′ dropping to 9000′. Precip: 1/4” daytime, 1/3” rain overnight. Wind: NW 25 early, WNW 10 after noon, WNW 25 overnight. It’s worth nothing that the wind direction Sunday and Monday will be conducive to orographic enhancement of rainfall; actual rainfall could be double those predictions.

Gorge Weather Forecast

It’s a cloudy and showery morning. We’ll end up dry and partly cloudy this afternoon. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and low 60’s later. Light west wind. 67% chance of rainbows. Sunday will likely have an epic sunrise as incoming high clouds catch the sun’s rays. There’s also a chance of an inversion cloud (and frost at higher elevations), so be prepared for all that. Temps will be near 40 early and in the low 60’s in the afternoon. Light rain (aka drizzle) will fall after 5pm. Light to moderate afternoon westerlies. No rainbows. Monday looks sprinkly. Temps will be in the upper 40’s early and near 60 in the afternoon. Light west wind. 89% chance of rainbows.

Road and Mountain Biking

Rainfall amounts yesterday ranged from .5” near Hood River to 2” near Timberline. This means Post Canyon will be very slippery, perhaps even muddy this morning. Best bet is Syncline this afternoon. 44 Road trails will have puddles. Locations to the west and north of Hood River will also be drenched.

Upcoming Events

Saturday events include… a trail run in Post Canyon at 8am, a work party on the 130 trail at 9am meeting at Post Flats, a free bootcamp workout at Sorosis Park in The Dalles at 10am, and a potluck (10:30am), wood splitting party (12:30-3pm), and tea with monks (3pm to 4pm) at Pacific Hermitage. There’s free yoga Sunday morning at 9am at Samadhi in White Salmon, and there’s all-ages pickup touch rugby at 11am at the Hood River Marina Park.
