Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
It’s been snowing on Mt. Hood and will continue to snow for the next couple of days. The snow level could vary from this forecast, especially on Sunday morning, depending on the exact location of an incoming low pressure system. For now, let’s go with this… On Saturday, you can expect light snowfall during the day and heavy snow overnight. The snow level will be 1500-2000′ during the day and 500′ or less overnight. We’ll see about .3” water value (WV) during the day, for 3-4” of new snow. Another 1” WV falls tonight, for 10-13” of new. Wind will be W 15 during the daylilght hours, W 25 in the evenign, and WSW 35 after midnight.
Sunday will be snowy. The snow level near Mt. Hood will be 500′ early, close to the surface midday, and 1000′ in the afternoon, dropping back to the surface overnight. We’ll see .6” WV or so during the day, for 6-8” of powder. Another couple of inches will fall overnight. Widn will be WSW 35 in the mornign, WNW 25 in the afternoon, and W 5-10 after midnight.
Monday may start off partly cloudy but will quickly turn into a bluebird day. The free air freezing level will be near the surface in the morning, around 500-1000′ midday, and back to the surface overnight. Wind will be light and variable during the day Monday and S 15 overnight.

Random Morning Thoughts
This abrupt change in the weather has me thinking a lot about the need to be sensitive to our moods. If we aren’t, we can find ourselves suddenly overwhelmed. My personal belief is that this comes in a large part because we humans are so adaptable; when stressors pile on slowly, we become accustomed to them. We adapt, and we don’t notice that our stress level has risen by a notch or two. We don’t notice that we’re close to our limit.
We’re truckin’ along, managing life, and then something tips us over the edge, leaving us feeling overwhelmed.
Are you familiar with your signs of increasing stress? Maybe your mood slips just a little. Perhaps you get irritable. Perhaps you eat more or less, sleep more or less, or isolate yourself more. Maybe you drink more or smoke a little more week, or do these things more frequently than you do when life is easy and simple (as if life is ever simple!).
If you can familiarize yourself with these signs, you can make positive changes to counteract your increasing stress load. More exercise. Less alcohol. More time with friends. More sleep. A few minutes outside. These changes don’t have to be large – a few minutes of walking in the fresh air will make a big difference (you don’t have to do a #GorgeNormal bike ride, for example!). The important thing is to notice where you’re at before it becomes “too much”. Take care of yourselves, and have an awesome day!
Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist, but I am seeing clients at this time. In the meantime, I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.
Gorge Wind Forecastt
It’s Saturday morning, and here’s a wind forecast: We’ll see light and variable wind this morning with westerlies at 10-13 through the whole gorge this afternoon. The wind will turn light easterly overnight. Sunday starts off with E 10-15 from Cascade Locks to Viento with west wind near Multnomah Falls (this has implications for travel conditions, but you will have to read the TATAS forecast for that). If the incoming low pressure system takes the path currently forecast by the GFS, the wind will turn light westerliy (8-11 or so) after 1pm. Monday starts with E 10-15 and picks up to E 20-25 in the afternoon. Tuesday looks quite cold with east wind at 40mph.

Road and Mountain Biking
We received .7” of rain on Thursday and another .15” on Friday, meaning all the trails are too wet to ride, with the possible exception of the front side of Syncline. The HRATS have a trail work party on Saturday: 9:30am at Family Man. Your best bet is to go help with the work party. =)
