As is the case many days, today started out dark and stormy on the slopes of Mt. Hood. You can expect .2” water value (WV) of wet, heavy snowfall (also known as ‘snain’) through 10am or so. We might get 1” out of that, and we might now. After the snow stops, we’ll have sunshine for a bit, and then high clouds, followed by some light precip tonight. The snow level today will drop to 4000′ by 7am and rise to 5000-5500′ this evening. We’ll see a trace of precip tonight, probably as wet snowflakes, but maybe as mixed precip. Wind today will be WNW 30 for the first half of the day, dropping to SW 10 in the afternoon and picking up overnight. Continued after the chart.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued…
Sunday starts off cloudy and quickly sees the start of precipitation. That precip will mostly end by noon, with flurries possible after that. The snow level is a little tricky tomorrow: 6500′ early, 5000′ by 10am, and 2500′ in the afternoon. We’ll see .3” WV between 5:30am and noon. I’m going with mixed precip on this one – rain or very, very, very wet snow to start, switching to snow. Let’s call it 1” of new snow. Wind on Sunday will be SW 20 early, picking up to SW 25-30 mid-morning and turning to WSW 35 in the afternoon.

See below for details.
Monday looks clear early and cloudy in the afternoon with some precip possible after midnight The snow level will be 1000′ early, rising to 6500′ when the precip hits. We’ll just see .1” WV, but that’s probably going to fall as rain. Wind on Monday will be WSW 30 in the morning, fading midday and becoming SW 10 in the afternoon and SW 20-25 after midnight.
As of right now, Tuesday looks just a little too warm and rather wet, but let’s wait a day or so and see what shakes out.

Gorge Wind Forecast
This morning started out with light and variable wind everywhere except Stevenson, where the wind was out of the west in the upper teens. Gradients were .07 (pdx-dls) and .05 (dls-psc). We’ll see the wind pick up to gusty 25-29 east of The Dalles today, with gusty 16-19 from Steven’s Locks to Doug’s. It’s possible the Rowena/Doug’s stretch will also see 25-29. Hard to say in this kind of dynamic setup.
Sunday starts out with light east wind. That won’t last. A weather system swings through in the morning, giving us W 20-23 starting around 2pm from Steven’s Locks to Mosier, with 26-30+ east of Bingen and all the way to Arlington. It’ll be short-lived, noon to 4pm or so. If you want it, drive preemptively.
Monday looks like W 5-10 in the morning and E 20-30 in the afternoon.
Random Morning Thoughts
There’s this really interesting communication thing called the double bind. In the double bind, which is almost as confusing to explain as it is to experience, conflicting messages are delivered to someone who cannot escape from the situation. For example, say you are in a relationship, and your partner says or nonverbally communicates the following message: “Share your feelings with me.” At a later situation (or even then), you share your innermost thoughts, and your partner rolls their eyes and tells you you’re too sensitive.
You’ve done what was asked, and then you were punished. This is horribly confusing. This is the double bind: you receive a message that you must do X or be punished, and then you receive a message that you must not do X or you will be punished. Sometimes there’s an added layer of saying that you must only do X because you want to, not because you have to.
You are subject to multiple competing demands, on different levels of communications, and because of the situation (this is your lover, your boss, your parents), you can’t remove yourself from the situation. But you need to, because when you’re being subjected to this, you’ll be in immense distress. You are placed in an unsolveable dilemma, and you are being controlled through manipulation of your emotions. Watch out for the ol’ double bind. You can read about it more on Wikipedia if you like, but be warned, it really is crazy-making reading! Have an awesome day!

White Sprinter Van of the Day
Road and Mountain Biking
It’s way, way too muddy to ride Post Canyon or Whoopdee today. I know this because Post was a sloppy mess last night at 5pm. That leaves you with Syncline today, and that’s going to be pretty windy. So will the road biking. Maybe it’s a nice day for a hike, or maybe you could check out the Gorge 400 – someone cut down the trees in the first 3 miles. Not sure about further up.
Upcoming Events
There’s a muddy trail run in Post Canyon this morning. I know it’s going to be slick and muddy because I ran at 5pm last night, and it was that way then. Be prepared. Coming up tomorrow, there’s community yoga at Samadhi at 9am, there’s community meditation at Flow at 11am, there’s pickup touch rugby at the Mosier School at 3pm, Yogafaith at Pure Yoga in The Dalles at 4pm, ping pong in the Hood River Armory at 5pm, and community yoga at Pure Yoga in Hood River at 6pm.
Have an awesome day today!
