Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
The snow that’s falling on Mt. Hood right now will be the last of the snow we see for quite a while. Instead, we’ll have warm temps and sunshine for a week. For Saturday, snow flurries early give way to clear sky or partly cloudy sky by mid-morning. The snow/freezing level will be 2000′ early, 4000′ in the afternoon, and 3000′ after midnight. Up to 1” snow will fall. Wind will be W 35 early, fading to NW 10 in the afternoon and light and variable overnight.
Sunday looks sunny. The free air freezing level (FAF) will be 3000′ early and 5500′ in the afternoon. Light wind earely, N 10 in the afternoon, NE 15 overnight. Monday looks sunny. The FAF will be 5000′ early and 11,000′ in the afternoon. NE wind at 15 early, E 15 in the afternoon, SE 15 overnight. Tuesday through Friday also look warm and sunny with the FAF above 10,000′.
Random Morning Thoughts
I was looking at the conversation on my TATAS page this morning, and I got to thinking about the Hood River Bridge. I don’t like the idea that I have to pay to get to Washington, but I’m able to afford it and thus tolerate it.
As a counselor, I see the bridge as a social justice problem. First, many people in the region are unable to afford to spend $2 a day to cross the bridge. Also, there are many people who do not have cars, and are then limited to hitching, getting a ride from a friend, or using the infrequent public transport which does not run in the evening. According to the person who answered the phone when I called a couple months back, the Port of Hood River does not have a program in place to assist low-income residents with affording bridge tolls, and they do not have a way to get people without cars across the bridge.
I find this troubling on many levels, not the least of which is that people are prevented from accessing services and job opportunities on the opposite side of the river from where they reside. People who are already struggling continue to have limited opportunities because of the Hood River Bridge, a barrier to access. Personally, I believe the Port of Hood River should look at the social justice issues around the bridge and find a way to address them. Those are my thoughts this morning. May you see the injustice around you and speak it aloud. Have an awesome day.
Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist, but I am seeing clients at this time at Comprehensive Healthcare in White Salmon. In the meantime, I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely. Forecasting and counseling are both deeply meaningful and nourishing to me.
