Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

Good morning skiers and snowboarders and Nordic folks! Our ski resorts are doing everything they can to get us as much terrain as they can, so get up there and ride it and make them happy. We’re still on track for a big shift in the weather at the end of next week. Thank you, Mother Nature. Things definitely look colder and wetter starting next Friday. 14 day percentiles for snow for Mt. Hood are… 25th: 28”; 50th: 35”; 90th: 63”.

Today, Saturday, brings a little mixed precip followed by a little snow. The snow level will be 6000′ early, 4000′ in the afternoon, and 3000′ overnight. About 0.1” water equivalent (WE) is forecast during the day for a trace to an inch of new depending on elevation. Another 0.1” WE falls overnight for an inch of new snow. Wind: SW 15 in the morning, SW 15-20 in the afternoon, and SW 5-15 overnight.

Sunday will be sunny. The free air freezing level (FAF) will be 3000′ in the morning and 4000′ in the afternoon. No precip other than sun beams and photons. Wind: SW 5-15 all day long turning to S 5-10 overnight. Monday also looks sunny. The FAF will be 4000′ in the morning, 5000′ in the afternoon, and 6000′ under high clouds overnight. Light S or SW wind all day.

Cloudy weather Tuesday morning may or may not turn snowy overnight. Models are rather uncertain and are tossing up all sorts of possibilities. The next impactful weather system arrives sometime on Friday. This one brings a good shot of snow. After that, models keep temps down and add precip to the mix. The snow keeps coming for a while. Not only will it snow, it’ll snow down to low elevations, low enough for Skibowl and Teacup to pick up enough (hopefully) to get going for the season. Have a great day on the slopes today!

Gorge Wind Forecast

A couple of what we like to call “rest days” are on tap for the weekend. Easterlies return on Monday. Slight chance of a west wind day on Friday. Saturday starts with pressures of 29.91/29.99/30.01 for gradients of E 0.08 and E 0.02. Easterlies were 30ish at Iwash and 15ish at Stevenson to start. They’ll turn calm by midday. River flow yesterday was 111-145kcfs, river temp is 45F under cloudy sky with light drizzle through early afternoon.

Sunday will be calm to start with E 15 at Iwash (Rooster) and Stevenson in the afternoon. Monday starts with 20-25 at Stevenson and 2530 at Iwash. Stevenson rises to 25, and Iwash rises to 30-35. Models suggest Tuesday will be a bit stronger. The possibility of westerlies on Wednesday has lessened, but Friday’s cold front holds some potential. Have a great day today!

Ride gravel. Ride your trainer. Build trails. There are trail builders seeking extra hands on seven additional miles of trail on Whoopdee. Contact HRATS for more information. If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
