Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, continued…

Sunday starts off with another round of snow. That’s followed by afternoon sunshine. The snow level will be at the surface (in the Gorge, anyway) early and 3500′ in the evening. The mountain will receive about .3” WV between 4am and 1pm, after which the snow will stop. That should give us 3-4” of new snow. Wind on Sunday will be SSE 30ish early, SW 30 around sunrise, and SW 15 by the afternoon.

Monday looks partly cloudy in the morning with a few scattered flurries. The sky will clear by late morning, for a sunny day on the hill. The free air freezing level will be 500′ or less all day long. Wind will be SW 10 early and light and variable in the afternoon.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, finished

High pressure builds in over the region on Tuesday, setting up a sunny day on the hill. The free air freezing level will be near the surface in the morning and at 2000′ or so in the afternoon. The wind will be NNW 10 in the morning and NW 20-25 in the afternoon. The GFS isn’t showing any precip through Friday, but the Euro shows some possible precip towards the end of the week. Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens in the models over the next couple of days.

Gorge Wind Forecast

Looks like we’ll see east wind at 15-20 Saturday morning, 25-30 midday, and 15-20 in the afternoon. The wind picks up overnight, giving us E 40-50 Sunday morning, quickly fading to E 15-20 late morning. Monday looks like E 15-20.

Random Morning Thoughts

All across the country today, women and their allies are gathering to march for women’s rights. While we may think we have an advanced society where women have equality, that’s just not the case. As a woman, I’ve experienced unwanted sexual harassment. I’ve experienced discrimination in the workplace. I’ve experienced my voice being shut down, minimized, and shamed in rooms full of men. I’ve been lucky enough to escape sexual assault, but fully 30% of women are not as lucky as I am. I, we are objectified, seen as collections of body parts rather than as human beings with personalities.

My body is my fortress, and men write laws to take my power over my body away from me. In the past, I was charged more for health insurance than were men, simply because I possess a uterus which I never plan to use.

I am sure what I am saying is upsetting to you. You will respond with, “Well, I’m a man and X, Y, or Z happened.” Yes, that isolated incident did happen, but you are not subject to systematic oppression as women are. Enough is enough. We are women. Today we march. Perhaps you will listen. Perhaps you will hear our stories and stand at our sides as we battle the long-standing oppression of all women. Open your hearts, and listen without prejudice as your female friends share their stories. Get outraged, and stand by us, because we need you to also say that this is no longer acceptable.

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 40 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

Gorge Weather Forecast

The weather is a little tricky the next few days, as the temp will be hovering right around freezing, and a lot depends on the coldness of the cold pool in the Columbia Basin. Anyway, expect temps just above freezing at river level today. Precip moves in around 1pm, for mixed snow and rain down low and sticking snow above 500′ or so. I guess it’s possible the lower-elevation areas will see snow after sunset, but it’s a close call. Anyway, max snowfall is 4-5” near Cascade Locks, 2” near White Salmon, and 1” near The Dalles. If you live in the upper valleys, you’ll hit those maxes. If you live near the river, you won’t. East wind. 4% chance of rainbows.

Sunday starts off colder and will likely see some snow as a deep offshore low pulls cold air in from the Basin. Snow falls between 4am and 10am for the following max amounts: 3-5” near Cascade Locks, 2-3” near Hood River, 1-2” near The Dalles. Again, if you’re higher up, you’ll hit those maxes. Temps should rise above freezing in the afternoon. East wind. No rainbows. Monday looks dry with a Nothing cloud early and sun later. Temps will be in the upper 20’s early and the mid 30’s in the afternoon. East wind. No rainbows.

Upcoming Events

There’s Spanish-language yoga at Flow at 7am, and there’s a trail run (maybe) in Post Canyon at 8am. There’s a sit-in women’s protest at the Hood River Library at noon today, and of course, there’s the women’s march in Portland. There’s the Cold Lap cross ride at Dirty Fingers at 3pm, but I’m guessing that’s cancelled.

Have an awesome day today!
