Gorge Wind Forecast

Wind direction will bounce around a bit over the next few days, but there’s not a ton of wind happening. Best chance for something? Easterlies midday on Sunday. Monday looks wet with very gusty afternoon westerlies in the teens. High pressure then starts to build in and leaves us with light east flow and warm weather for the second half of next week. There are hints of westerlies on Saturday. I’m sure keeping a close eye on that!

Saturday starts with pressures of… wait for it… 29.99/29.99.29.99 for exactly zero gradient. The wind is calm, as you might have guessed. This afternoon, as a very weak weather system moves in, westerlies pick up to 10-13 from Lyle to Biggs. River flow yesterday was 75-105kcfs, river temp is 64F, and high temp forecast is 64F.

Sunday brings a round of easterlies as a low consolidates offshore and zips northward. The wind starts at 15mph between Iwash (Rooster) Rock and Viento. Models take Stevenson to 25-30, Iwash to 25, and Viento to 15 for just a few hours. Afternoon wind drops to 15-20 from Iwash to Stevenson and 10-15 at Viento. High temp: 68F.

Monday mostly just looks rainy. Pre-dawn easterlies turn calm by daybreak. As a weather system swings through, the wind turns westerly at 7-10. There might just be a burst of gusty 14-17 (with showers) all through the Gorge, all the way from Stevenson to Arlington, for the early evening Executive Session. High temp: 62F. Nothing happens Tuesday. Wednesday through Friday brings light easterlies, probably not enough to get on the water, but that could change. Maybe. Keep an eye for the end of this pattern, maybe next Saturday, maybe next Sunday, for potential westerlies. Fingers crossed!

Cycling

As of Thursday afternoon, Whoopdee was perfect brown pow. That suggests Syncline is too. Post? Maybe? See the upcoming events list for upcoming trail work parties. Don’t ride in the mud, or you’ll do permanent damage. Also, people will have to fix your messes rather than building you new trails. Just don’t, okay? Trails on private land that were previously closed due to fire danger (Hospital Hill, Underwood, Whoopdee) have reopened. No trails have closed yet due to snow. If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
