Winter Pledge Drive – Support this forecast!
Thank you for using this forecast. I do it as a gift to the community because I want all of you to have more fun in your lives. We’re all busy people, and having an idea of when the snow, wind or dirt will be good allows us to plan ahead. Although I receive occasional support from advertisers, the bulk of my support comes from the generosity of my readers. If you’ve been using this for years, if it’s helpful, brings more fun into your life, or makes you happier in some way, please donate. $12.34 or more gets the forecast delivered to your inbox for a year (I’ll protect your info). Anything over that makes both of us feel appreciative and appreciated, and also pays my grad school bills. Thanks for using the forecast, and thanks for your support. Mt. Hood Snow Forecast.
Holy moly. This is the snow forecast you’ve been waiting for! The snow level today will be 2000′ early, rising to 4000′ in the afternoon and dropping to 500′ after midnight. We’ll see .7” water value (WV) between 7am and 4pm, for 6-8” of new snow. Massive precip moves in tonight, for 1.5-1.7” WV overnight, giving us somewhere around 18” of new snow by 4am Sunday. Wind will be SW 40 in the morning and SW 50 overnight.
The massive snowfall continues on Sunday with the snow level at 1000′ early and at the surface in the evening. The snow will be a bit on the heavy side early, becoming lighter as the day goes on. Between 4am and 4pm, another 1.5-1.7” WV is expected, for somewhere around 18” of new snow. If you are going to a resort, bring a snow shovel so you can extricate yourself from the parking lot. Between 4pm Sunday and 4am Monday, another .8-1.2” WV arrives, for an additional 9-14” of new snow. Widn on Sunday will be SW 30-40 all day.
The snowfall rate backs off on Monday, but the snow level won’t rise one bit: it’ll be around 500′ or less all day long, most likely at 0′. Between 4am and 4pm, .5” WV gives us 5-7” of fluffy new snow. Another .4” WV overnight gives 4-5” of additional powder. Wind on Monday will be W 20 in the morning, WSW 35 midday, and W 30 in the evening.
The broad-brush picture for Tuesday into Wednesday is troubling, with warm air aloft bringing rain to the slopes. At this point, it’s unclear how much rain, but it certainly looks well above freezing through Thursday night. I guess we’ll have to wait and see how this pans out.
Gorge Wind Forecast
East wind today drops to 15-20 later on, possibly going calm tonight. Looks like we’ll see calm wind tomorrow. West wind on Monday at 13-16 or so will be accompanied by snow. Fun.

Random Morning Thoughts
Looks like another round of exciting weather for both the Gorge and Portland this week. I know many of you are getting tired of this, so it’s time for a reminder. Is there anything at all fun about this? Is there anything at all good? Can you turn this into an opportunity to do an activity you don’t normally do, perhaps something that will make you giggle?
Can you help out a neighbor by doing some shoveling or some errand-running? Can you find a way, in the midst of this mess, to connect more deeply with the people around you?
There is, of course, nothing we can do about the weather. But we can do something about our reactions. See what you can find to make this mess tolerable, maybe even fun or heartwarming. Have an awesome day!
Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 40 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.
Gorge Weather Forecast
It’s completely impossible to give you a temp forecast right now, so I’ll just give you precip. Freezing rain this morning may turn to rain this afternoon but will most likely turn to snow after midnight. East wind may or may not switch to west wind. Definitely no rainbows. Sunday looks stupidly snowy, especially for folks above 1000′, but it’s also possible we’ll see cold rain at river level in the morning. Anyway, massive snowfall Sunday night into Monday. West wind. No rainbows. Monday brings light flurries and west wind. The next round of fun arrives with another ice storm Tuesday night into Wednesday.

Your trainer bike will be happy to see you today. And so will your XC skis.
Upcoming Events
I have no idea what events are on or off today, but I’m guessing the Dirty Fingers Cold Lap cyclocross ride will be turned into the Cold Pint once again. The Cabin Fever Festival is happening in Trout Lake today and tomorrow with an XC race. As of early this morning, it was still snow, not freezing rain, in BZ, so maybe it’s nice up in Trout Lake too?
Have an awesome day today!
