Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Mt. Hood Snow Forecast, finished

Monday starts with a short period of light rain. The sky clears by 10am, staying clear for the rest of the day and night. Monday’s snow level will be around 10,000′ in the morning and 12,000′ in the afternoon. Light SSW or S wind at 10mph or so accompanies the warmth. Tuesday also looks sunny and warm with the free air freezing level at 12,000’+ and SSW wind at 10-20.

The next two incoming weather systems are predicted for Wednesday night and Friday night. At this point, the former looks to have a snow level of 8000′. The latter looks like 7000’+. In other words, there’s no significant snowfall in the forecast for ski area base elevations.

Random Morning Thoughts

We set the clocks back tonight, leading to evenings of darkness and mornings of light. Personally, I’d rather we keep the dark in the morning and the light in the evening, but nobody’s asked for my opinion. For me, the advantage of a dark morning is the option of sleeping in.

Waking up well-rested is a rare luxury for many of us. Research shows that getting enough sleep contributes to our lives in all sorts of meaningful ways. Despite this, we continue to burn the candle at both ends, sacrificing health and sanity for accomplishment.

Tonight, however, is a special night. An extra hour materializes out of thin air. Some people may see this as an opportunity to accomplish even more. I vote for accomplishing the life-enhancing task of a good night’s sleep. Enjoy your extra hour. Have an awesome day.

Road and Mountain Biking

I went for a short lap in Post Canyon yesterday, and it was just dry enough to ride. It was also just wet enough to be scary. I’d recommend you ride Syncline or Whoopdee instead. After this afternoon’s rain, Post will be gone again for a few days. Another nice option would be to show up for Charley Laventure work day. That’s 9am at Family Man. There’s a work party on Whoopdee tomorrow at 9am.

Upcoming Events

Coming up this weekend, there’s a work party at Rowena Park on Saturday from 9am to 1pm. Snacks and drinks will be provided. There’s a work party on Charley’s trail on Saturday at 9am. Meet at Family Man for that one. There’s a work party on the Whoopdee trail on Sunday from 9am to 1pm. Don’t forget that we change the clocks on Saturday night. That’ll give you an extra hour of sleep that night. Don’t be early for the work party!

Have an awesome day today!

Temira
