Gorge Wind Forecast
There are some little whitecaps on the river this morning, and those whitecaps will get bigger today as a low pressure system moves into Vancouver BC and a weak heat low forms in the desert. That BC system will likely cause a decrease in wind quality near Swell in the afternoon. So, to start the day we’ve got .06 (pdx-dls) and .03 (dls-psc) with river flow of 181kcfs and river temp of 66.
We’ll see 18-23 from Viento to Moiser until 11am or so with 10-13 east and 5-10 west of that stretch. As the desert heats up midday, the wind will build to 24-28 from Viento to Rufus with 20-23 near Stevenson and Arlington. You’ll want to get the wind near Swell as soon as possible, because it’ll likely drop off this afternoon. Before I forget, today is the CGWA ‘Get on Board’ demo festival at the Nichols Boat Basin. $10 demos of all sorts of wind sport gear between 10am and 5pm. They also have a swap meet at Luhr Jensen this morning and a concert at the Ruins tonight.
Sunday starts off with low clouds in Hood River and a chance of sprinkles in the west. That BC low moves east and high pressure builds offshore, giving us another day of strong westerlies. We’ll starts with 0-10 in the west and 10-15 from Mosier eastward. Light wind won’t last long; by 11am we should have 22-25 from Mosier to Arlington. By early afternoon, Cascade Locks should be in the 15-18 range, Viento to Mosier at gusty 22-25 (unless the clouds clear, in which case more is likely), and Lyle to Arlington at 26-30.
Monday’s forecast contains some model disagreement about strength. The GFS gives us Dawn Patrol from Hood River to Mosier at 24-27, with the wind filling in from Stevenson to The Dalles at 24-27 by midday. The Euro is rowdier, with 27-30 from Lyle to Rufus for the max speed. The difference seems to be dependent on how far eastward high pressure builds, and also on how hot the desert gets. So… guess we’ll wait and see!
BONUS: Jones Saturday: 13-16. Sunday: 16-19. Monday: 21-24. Sauvie’s Saturday: 10-13. Sunday: 12-15. Monday: 10-13. Coast (north/central/south). Saturday: W5/N 5-10/30+, W swell 4′ at 9 seconds. Sunday: 10-15/15-20/30+, W 4′ @ 8. Monday: 20-25/20-25/35+, NW 4′ @ 8.
Random Morning Thoughts
Shit happens. No, really. It does! And sometimes the shit that happens will be painful for us. Sometimes it won’t. Have you ever wondered why that is? Why some of those unwanted events hurt more than other, seemingly similar, unwanted events?
Much of that answer lies in how you’re dealing with them. One of the keys to suffering less is patience. Nobody wants to have painful feelings sticking around for extended periods of time. However, wanting those painful feelings to go away, wanting things to be different, is only creating additional painful feelings.
Just saying “be more patient”, obviously, doesn’t really work. Looking at your experience and understanding the ways in which you’re being impatient can. Does your impatience manifest as thoughts, “I want this to be over!”, does it manifest as bodily tension (which is probably linked to some sort of thought or belief), does it manifest as emotions?
Whatever you find, take some time to observe it (not poke at it!) and learn more about your experience of impatience. By watching, you’ll gain some insight into how it’s making you hurt more. And that might just give you the power to be more patient and compassionate with yourself. May you be at ease. Have an awesome day.
