Gorge Wind Forecast

It’s definitely looking like easterly season out there as a heat low settles over the west side of the state and radiational cooling leads to cool nights on the east side. For today, Sunday, it’s fishing weather. The morning brings westerlies at 1-10mph everywhere through the Gorge. The wind goes calm from Hood River eastward in the afternoon and picks up to E 10-15 from Rooster to Viento. River flow is 76,300cfs, temp is 65, fish count yesterday was around 2000, and today’s high temp will be 73 or so.

Monday brings stronger easterlies. The day starts with 35-40 near Rooster, 25-30 near Stevenson, and 20-25 near Viento. Expect the wind to drop about 10mph at all those locations after 1pm. Easterlies pick up to 10-15 east of Hood River in the afternoon with 5-10 in Hood River. High temp: 79.

Tuesday starts with east wind at 30-35 near Rooster, 20-25 near Stevenson, and 15-20 near Viento. Afternoon wind drops to 15-20 near Rooster and 10-15 other locations. Easterlies build to 5-10 east of Hood River in the afternoon. Worth noting for Tuesday: excellent morning surfing conditions on the coast. Lighter easterlies continue on Wednesday and Thursday.

Kiting is allowed again at the Marina. Event Site Launch-and-Land starts October 5th. Lyle is now off limits unless you can get to the sandbar without crossing the RR tracks. If you cross the tracks, you will be ticketed. Lyle: loved to death. Roosevelt: still closed due to wind damage from earlier this year. Mosier is only available to residents of 97040 (Mosier).
