Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

This morning is snowy and blowy and foggy on Mt. Hood, but theoretically we’ll see some sunbreaks this afternoon. The snow level will be around 2000′ for much of the day, dropping to around 1000′ under clear sky tonight. We’ll see .1-.3” water value (WV) between 5am and 5pm today, for 1-3” of new snow, probably the lower end. Models suggest we might see another inch tonight, but I think it’s more likely we won’t. Wind today will be W 25 all day, dropping to SW 10-15 after midnight.

Sunday starts off with clear sky and low clouds. More clouds move in by mid-afternoon, and snow starts up around 10pm. The snow level will be 1000′ early, rising to 5000′ in the afternoon and dropping to 2000′ after midnight. We’ll see .1-.2” WV overnight, for a couple inches of new snow, max. Wind on Sunday will be light south or SW during the day, rising to SW 20 after midnight.

Random Morning Thoughts

I’m pretty excited right now. Want to know why? I know you do! I’m excited because today (and yesterday) is the Fred Meyer Fuchsia Sale! I love fuchsias, and I love being around a lot of happy people buying fuchsias and getting free soil for their pots. There’s really no metaphysical conclusion to draw from this, other than the fact that flowers are good for the soul. Have an awesome day.

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist (but I could be 40 graduate school credits from now). I am your weather forecaster. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely, even when I am a therapist.

White Sprinter Van of the Day

Road and Mountain Biking

Syncline is good. Hospital Hill is good. Whoopdee is now open, and there is a work party on Sunday at 9:15 at the Whoopdee parking lot. Columbia Hills and Easy CLIMB are good to go. I’ve heard rumors that Post is open from Lower 8 Track and Mitchell Ridge down. Above that, there are downed trees and snow. There’s lots of good road biking and gravel grinding to be had right now.

Upcoming Events

Today is Saturday. It’s the annual Fred Meyer Fuschia Sale, where you can buy lots of fuschias for very little money and get free soil for the pots you bring too! Apparently it was also yesterday, but I missed that memo or I’d have been there avoiding the crowds. Anyway… the RWJF Health Prize Fair is at the Mosier School today. There’s a free half-day meditation retreat with the monks of Pacific Hermitage at Yoga Samadhi today. There’s a constituent town hall for Mr. Walden at the Hood River Middle School today. Walden won’t be there, but in response, he agreed to hold a town hall next Wednesday in The Dalles at 11am and one in Hood River at 3pm. I am sure that time/day is quite convenient for you, especially if you’re working-class and have a job you can’t skip out on.

Have an awesome day today!

Temira
