Mt. Hood Weather Forecast

The Mt. Hood forecast looks cold and dry for the next few days. Following that, the models bring through some rain and then some snow. Models do disagree on the timing and the amount of snowfall, so let’s keep that portion of the forecast general for now.

For Saturday through Monday, expect clear sky on Mt. Hood. The free air freezing level will be around 10,000′. Wind will be variable to 15, with the exception of Sunday. East wind at 20-30 is likely through Sunday. Looking into the longer-range forecast, models bring in some precipitation Wednesday. Intensity of the precip varies, but not the temp: it’ll be too warm for snow. The GFS switches the rain to snow on Thursday and brings in a series of systems. Ballpark is 12-20” total. The Euro holds the snow off until Friday and drops 8-16”. Remember that this is a long way out to be forecasting. This forecast could change dramatically between now and then.

Gorge Wind Forecast

Attention: there is a Hatchery cleanup on Saturday from 9am-noon. As for the wind, we’ll have easterlies for the next five days. Wind spilling over the Cascade Crest on Saturday will decrease the wind speeds from gradient predictions: 30-35 is likely near Rooster Rock all day and 20-25ish near Stevenosn. The depth of the cold pool drops just enough on Sunday and Monday for bigger easterlies: 45-55 near Rooster Rock and 30-35 near Stevenson both days. Tuesday and Wednesday both look like 30-35.

JONES, SAUVIE’S, COAST: now on vacation for the fall and winter. Will return in spring.
