Saturday. Clouds, snow and wind. Warm weather next week, yay!

DSC_0329_HDR
It’s looking like a cloudy day up on Mt. Hood today, with precipitation this evening and overnight. The snow level today will be around 3500′ early, rising to 6500′ with the precip and falling to 4000′ after midnight. We’ll see rain start up around 8pm, with .3-.4” WV of rain before a switch to snow after midnight. Then we’ll see .2” WV that falls as snow by 5am, for 1-2” of new. That’s going to leave the groom a very mixed bag of crust, granular, and intermittent packed powder on Sunday morning. Wind today will be light and variable early, rising to SW 15-20 in the afternoon and becoming WSW 35 after midnight. Continued after the chart.

Gorge Wind Forecast

There’s not much wind out there on this Saturday morning – just some light easterlies at 10-15 at Rooster. Even that little bit of wind will fade away to nothing by this afternoon, turning westerly tonight. Expect strong westerlies on Sunday. It’ll likely be cloudy and rainy in the western Gorge with gusty wind in the upper teens. East of the clouds on Sunday, most like east of The Dalles, we’ll have 26-30 right off the bat and all day long. Today’s current at The Dalles is 212kcfs, still perfectly Rufus-able.

Looking at Monday, we’ll still have a decent setup. The morning starts off with 11-14 from Stevenson to Mosier, picking up to 24-28+ from Stevenson to Doug’s in the afternoon. The coast also looks windy on Monday, with 20-25 everywhere and a 9′ swell at 10 seconds. Tuesday looks pretty light, with W 10-13 at best in the morning and light and variable wind in the afternoon.

Gorge Weather Forecast

There’s a blanket of gray across the sky this morning, and that probably won’t change today. Rain starts up around 8pm tonight and continues in showery form through Sunday morning. Expect temps in the mid 30’s early and the mid 50’s this afternoon. Light wind. No rainbows. Sunday starts of showery and ends up showery, with plenty of sunbreaks. Temps will be in the low 40’s early and the low 50’s in the afternoon. Strong west wind. 99.9% chance of rainbows. Monday starts off with sprinkles and quickly turns partly cloudy with plenty of sun. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and the low 50’s in the afternoon. Moderate to strong west wind. 8% chance of rainbows. The rest of the week looks warm and dry.

Road and Mountain Biking

I went over to Syncline yesterday, and the first thing I saw was people in the parking lot pulling ticks off each other. Nice. Very nice. The next thing I saw was perfect dirt. Hidden is perfect. It’s also very confusing at Syncline now, because there are signs. And the signs use hiker names for the trails, not biker names for the trails. Be careful, or you may get lost. Or you may look at the world in a whole new way. Anyway, I dunno about Post today. It’s a big maybe. Call it 50/50? On the road, sadly, I was expecting sunshine today, but it looks like we’ll just see high clouds with a high temp in the mid 50’s and light wind. Still, a good day to ride if you wait for it to warm up. Wednesday looks f’ing awesome on the road: warm, sunny, and light wind. Might have to ride to school in Portland! In other bike news, the Gorge Roubaix race the weekend of April 3rd is still looking for volunteers. Sign up and help keep a good thing going.

Upcoming Events

This being spring break, I’m very confused about the day of the week. Consulting my calendar, I see that it’s Saturday. That means there’s a trail run at 8am in Post Canyon. Coming up tomorrow, there’s more by-donation yoga than you can shake a stick at: 9am at Samadhi, 4pm at Pure Yoga in The Dalles, and 6pm at Pure Yoga in Hood River. There’s also community meditation and satsang at Flow at 11am, pickup touch rugby at 3pm at the Mosier School, and ping pong at the Hood River Armory at 5pm.

Have an awesome day today!
