Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Hello shredders! The mountains have picked up a few inches of snow over the last couple of days, and a few more are likely over the weekend. That should keep groomed snow conditions in the packed powder or hardpack zone, other than high-traffic areas. Nordic skiers: both Meadows and Teacup will be groomed both Saturday and Sunday. For Friday night, we’ll see some light snow. The snow level falls from 3000′ to 1500-2000′ overnight. About 0.2” to 0.3” water equivalent is forecast for 2-3” new snow. Wind will be WNW 30-35 overnight.
Saturday starts breezy and mostly cloudy. Clear sky mid-morning gives way to snow in the afternoon and evening. The snow level will be 1500-2000′ in the morning, 3000′ in the afternoon, and 2500′ overnight. This time of year, models tend to overestimate snowfall; they’re currently calling for 3” in the afternoon and 2” overnight. Betcha we get half that! Wind: W 30 to start the day, W 25 mid-morning, WNW 25-35 in the evening, and W 20 overnight.
Intermittent light snow Sunday morning gives way to sun, then high clouds, then a little snow, perhaps an inch, overnight. During the day, a trace to 2” is forecast. The snow level will be 2500′ in the morning, 3500′ in the afternoon, and 2500′ after midnight. Wind: W 20 in the morning, W 10 in the afternoon, and WSW 10 overnight. Monday looks partly cloudy with the freezing level rising from 1000′ to 4000′ during the day. West wind at 10-15. Tuesday looks sunny then partly high overcast with the freezing level rising from 6500′ to 7500. Temps max out in the mid to upper 30s. West wind at 15-20. The next couple of days look warmer and sunnier. After Thursday, there’s quite a bit of range in the ensembles, but there’s no strong sign of significant incoming precip. Looks like it’s spring skiing time!

Gorge Wind Forecast
Hi friends! A good time was had by all today! Lighter westerlies continue through, oh, Tuesday or so before warmer weather (might, probably will) shut things down. Saturday starts with 7-10 and clouds in the west and 24-27 from Celilo to Threemile. That’s pretty borderline for out there, but might be just enough for you. Areas west of The Dalles rise to 10-13 in the afternoon. East: hold. River flow Friday was 99-162kcfs, river temp is 48.56F, and high temp forecast is a miserly 52F under mostly cloudy sky (sunshine out east).
Sunday sees the wind bounce around all over the place as weather systems impact the Gorge. The day starts with less than 10mph west of The Dalles and 12-15 from Avery to Arlington. By early afternoon, we’ll have gusty 16-19 from Stevenson to The Dalles with 12-15 out east. That lasts a few hours, then the eastern Gorge rises to 15-18 and the western Gorge drops to 7-10. High temp: 56F with intermittent rain in Stevenson and partly cloudy sky elsewhere. Monday starts with light west wind and stays light through early afternoon. Evening westerlies rise to 11-14 from Stevenson to Rufus. High temp: 59F under mostly sunny sky. Tuesday looks like a carbon copy of Monday but slightly warmer. Enjoy.

Cycling
Definitely got a Tack Alert going on out there right now – lots of good dirt. Some areas of Post are still muddy (shady, cool areas), so consider choosing a different spot to ride. You’ll have Post all summer long! Sisterwives and Kleeway in Post Canyon are currently closed for rebuilding. It’s trailbuilding season. Get on the HRATS mailing list if you’d like to help out. If you’re parking at Post Canyon, you will need a parking pass. Those can be purchased at many local shops or online.
