Once again, we have hundreds of happy fishermen and fisherwomen and fishergenderqueers, etc., out on the glassy Columbia River. The 6am gradient was just .03 (pdx-dls), enough to indictate the possibility of wind today, but not enough to get anything noteworthy going right off the bat. Of note are the fish counts: 23564 Chinook and 1923 steelhead yesterday. Also of note: the dropping river temp; it’s currently 66 degrees. Continued after the chart.

Gorge Wind Forecast, continued…
You can expect the wind to slowly pick up today as high pressure off the coast combines with desert heating for 15-18 this afternoon from Stevenson to The Dalles and possibly Rufus as well.
Tomorrow starts off pretty light, with 7-10 or 10-13 from Hood River to Mosier. As a weak frontal system approaches the coast late in the day, the wind will pick up. You can expect the most reliable wind to be at Stevenson and probably Doug’s, with other areas seeing just an hour or two of the good stuff. Wind speeds will max out in the gusty 24-28 range mid-afternoon, filling in all the way from Stevenson to Rufus with Arlington joining late in the afternoon.

See below for details.
Monday morning sees a weak trough of low pressure over the region with high pressure off the coast. Models are predicting a little wind to start with decreasing wind during the day. Under this setup, the Gorge typically beats the models; we’ll probably see 12-15 all day Monday from Stevenson to Mosier.
Out on the coast, you shall find this (north/central/coast). Today: light/5-10/25-30, W swell 4′ @ 9 seconds. Tomorrow: light/light/20-25+, W 5′ @ 9. Monday: 15-20/20-25/30+, W 5′ @ 9.
Jones n’ Sauvie’s beta test forecast. Jones today, 13-16. Jones tomorrow, gusty 13-16. Jones Monday, 20-23. Sauvie’s today, light. Sauvie’s tomorrow, light. Sauvie’s Monday, 10-13.

Random Morning Thoughts
I apologize for the late forecast today. It’s Woody’s fault. Yesterday he sent me a link to a Sprinter Van video. I can’t imagine what inspired him to Google such a thing, but now I’m hooked, and I’ve been sitting here watching WSV videos this morning. In your usual White Sprinter Van photo section today, there’s a link to the BEST WSV video ever – just click on the image and you’ll have several minutes of well-produced entertainment to start your day.
And now I’m sitting here struggling to come up with a takeaway from WSV videos.
Number one: if you think something will make a friend’s day, do it. Send that text, send a link to a video, send them flowers, bake them cookies… let them know you care!
Number two: do silly stuff. Let your inner child run the show once in a while. Not the inner teenager. The innocent inner child who’s curious, playful, inquisitive, and open to new experiences. Give that part of you free reign, and the grumpy adult parts of you will become more like who you were before life dumped a bunch of s**t on you.
Number three: Send Temira WSV photos. You’ll make her day, and you’ll end up famous when she gives you photo credit. Please sent horizontal photos with space around the WSV, as photos will be cropped to 480×200. In other words, number three is “ask for what you want”. =)
Have an awesome day in the sun!
Gorge Weather Forecast
It’s another mostly clear morning in the gorge, expect for just enough high clouds near Adams for a big patch of pink in the sky at sunrise. That was a lovely way to start the day. We’ll have temps in the upper 40’s early and the upper 70’s this afternoon. Light wind early, moderate late. Tomorrow looks clear in the morning with temps in the mid 50’s. Expect partly cloudy sky and temps in the upper 70’s late with a colorful sunset. Light wind early, strong late. Monday looks partly cloudy to start (nice sunrise) and sunny in the afternoon with temps in the low 50’s early and the low 70’s in the afternoon. Light wind. No rainbows for the three day period.

Road and Mountain Biking
I went for a trail inspection in Post Canyon yesterday. There were a few tacky spots, but mostly it was dry and dusty. Our next chance of rain is on Thursday, so you’ll have to wait until the end of the week for tacky trails. In road biking news, this morning looks lovely, tomorrow morning looks lovely, and Monday looks great all day.

In events, there’s a trail run at 8am in Post Canyon. If you want to race, today’s the Bridge of the Goddess Run in Cascade Locks – the Bridge of the Gods will be closed for about 90 minutes this morning. Hood River County has a work party on the 170 trail this morning – meet at Binn’s Hill Staging Area to help out. And remember, the Post Canyon area, and only the Post Canyon area, has reopened for motorized use.
There’s also a beach cleanup at Rooster Rock today with a stargazing party at Rooster Rock tonight. At Hood River’s Waterfront Park tonight, it’s the Music Festival of the Gorge.
Tomorrow is the Gorge Kids Triathlon for K through 5. Kids’ll need shoes, swimming gear, and a bike, but if they don’t have a bike, Anson’s Bike Buddies will be there with bikes to loan. And if you have an extra bike around the house, you can drop it off for a tax writeoff!
This weekend is the Pah Bah for Pacific Hermitage. If you’re interested in meditation, there’s a half-day retreat at the White Salmon Grange today (free, 1-4 with a bonus round from 4-5). There’s a potluck and other events on Sunday, including a chance to chat with some playful, inquisitive fellows who dress differently than you do and also run large chainsaws better than you or I do.
Have an awesome day today!
