Gorge Wind Forecast

It’s another fishing-friendly morning out there on the Columbia, but the westerlies will return midday. You’ll be on the river if you know how to take advantage of moderate wind. After today, things get messy for a couple days. A quick series of fronts followed by a trough sets off showers and gusty, unreliable wind for a few days.

Looking closer at today, we see calm wind to start with the 10-13mph exception of easterlies at Rooster. Those will die off quickly. By late morning, you’ll find W 10-13 between Stevenson and Swell. The wind builds to 15-18 this afternoon between Stevenson and The Dalles with 10-13 out east. River flow is 90,100cfs, river temp is 65F, and high temp forecast is 83F.

Looking at Sunday, we see a couple of fronts hanging out offshore and moving this way. The wind starts with gusty 16-19 west of Hood River and east of The Dalles with 8-13ish in between. It appears the wind will bounce around a bit in the morning and fade in the afternoon to 7-10 in the west and 12-15 out east. Rain starts up after sunset. High temp: 75F.

Monday will be showery with light westerlies or light and variable wind. It’s possible you could find westerlies in the teens to low 20’s between Rooster Rock and Viento. Tuesday’s forecast is currently 14-17, but that’s too far out and the setup is too complicated to rely on that. Enjoy the weekend!
