Gorge Wind Forecast

An area of low pressure moves over the northwest on Saturday and Sunday and is then replaced by an area of inland high pressure from Monday onward. This will lead to a period of light wind for the Gorge. Before I forget, there is a swap meet this morning at Luhr Jensen. It’s the last windsports swap of the season. The next time you hear about a swap, it’ll be the ski swap at HRVHS.

For Saturday, expect cool and showery weather. The wind starts light and variable in the west with 10-13 east of The Dalles. It’s a little hard to figure out what will happen this afternoon. It appears the eastern Gorge wind will die off. There’s a chance of 10-13 in the western Gorge, but there’s no guarantee of that. River flow is 86,400 cfs and temp is 65 degrees.

Sunday sees low pressure shift west of the Cascade Crest while cold air pours into the desert. This sets up offshore flow; easterlies blow at 10-15 from Rooster to Viento in the morning and fade to E 5-10 in the afternoon. Monday starts with E 15-20 from Rooster to Viento and backs off to E 5-10.

COAST, JONES, SAUVIE’S: Coast (north/central/south, wind N unless otherwise specified – swell forecast courtesy of National Weather Service). Saturday: 15-20/20-25/20-25, NW swell 10′ at 10 seconds. Sunday: 10-15/15-20/10-15, NW 8′ @ 10. Monday: 10-15/10-15/20-25, NW 4′ @ 8. Jones Saturday-Monday: nope. Sauvie’s Saturday: 10-13. Sunday-Monday: nope.
