Meet your forecaster: Temira

For almost 30 years, Temira (they/them) has been making the most of the Gorge: riding river swell, shredding powder, and cycling all the gravel and pavement and trails. This is Temira’s playground, their gym… their life’s work.

This passion led Temira to take a vow: In 2006, Temira decided to provide the most accurate, hyper-local weather forecasts possible. Today, Temira’s forecasts have become an essential resource for thousands of skiers, snowboarders, wind sports enthusiasts and Gorge commuters. With Temira’s guidance, you can plan ahead, time your sessions perfectly, and just plain have more fun! But the story doesn’t end there.

There’s “Temira’s Awesome Travel Advisory Service” and “Valuable Advice for Gardeners Inhabiting Neighboring Areas” – the Gorge’s premier microclimate forecast and gardening information. When winter storms, extreme heat, hail, or avalanches on SR-14 and I-84 threaten, TATAS keeps everyone and their tomatoes and giant pumpkins and cash crops safe.

Temira’s relentless efforts keep the forecasts flowing. But it ain’t easy: each forecast takes a couple of hours. That’s where you come in. By contributing, you’re not just supporting Temira’s passion project – you’re investing in the safety and well-being of the entire Gorge community. Your financial support ensures these essential forecasts remain accessible to all, free of charge.

So please take a moment to click one of the buttons below. Donate $19.99 or more (how much does this forecast enhance your life?) and get the email in your inbox. Or just contribute enough for a cup or pound of coffee. I need coffee! Every contribution, no matter the amount, makes a difference. Help me keep this labor of love alive, so we can all commute safely, play in the river, and shred Mt. Hood with the best weather forecasts possible. Thank you!

New Year’s Day
Monday
Tuesday

Good morning!

Happy New Year. Hopefully you had a great night last night with friends and family and got plenty of New Year’s sleep. I don’t know how you do both, but I’ll still cross my fingers that you managed it!

Today looks mostly cloudy to start, becoming mostly sunny by mid-morning. Wind will be SW 20-30 up high all day today. The freezing level today will be 7000’ early, rising to 9000’ in the afternoon.

Tomorrow brings a cloudy start, with precip starting around 10am and continuing all day for .4” water value by 10pm. The snow level will be 9000’ early, dropping to 5500’ by 10am and falling to 3500’ by 1pm. I think we’ll see warm, wet snow to start with 2-3” of new total by 10pm, but it’s possible we’ll see a mix of rain and snow to start. Winds Monday will be SW 30-40 early, picking up to 35-45 by 10am and 40-50 by 1pm.

Tuesday starts off clear, with high clouds moving in mid-morning. The freezing level will be at 6000’ early, climbing to 9000’ by 10am and 10000’ by 4pm. Winds will be SW 15-20 early, rising to SW 30-35 by 4pm.

Wednesday starts off cloudy, with a mix of rain and snow starting around 5pm, switching to all snow around 1am. Models are still unclear about the quantity of precip we’ll get out of this system, but it’s probably fair to guess that we’ll see 4-6” or more on the ground by Thursday morning.

Thursday looks cold with new snow on the ground.

If you want windsurfing and kiting, today is your best chance in the next 72 hours, with 30+mph at Stevenson and 40+mph at Rooster Rock. Have fun and be safe!
