Gorge Wind Forecast

It’s going to be hot this week, but all is not lost! A heat low situated in the desert contributes to weak onshore gradients for much of the week. This is Monday’s forecast. I’ll be taking Tuesday off. Because long day today and longer day tomorrow. So, for Monday, we start out with a miniscule west gradient and light and variable wind to 5 mph. Things stay that way until noon or so, when the wind will pick up. Whitecaps arrive first at Stevenson and fill in to The Dalles, with 13-16 the call after 2pm. Areas east of The Dalles will see light northerlies.

Tuesday looks like 11-14 from Stevenson to Swell to start the day. We’ll see a slow build to 19-22 from Stevenson to The Dalles with 10-13 at Rufus and light westerlies farther east. The thermal trough shifts eastward on Wednesday and a shortwave trough approaches the region late. Models don’t really seem to be adding much to the wind with this: they’re predicting morning westerlies at 12-15 from Stevenson to Mosier and 17-20 in the afternoon from Stevenson to Rufus. Let’s add “gusty” to that, given the setup.

That trough uses marine influence to drop the temps a few degrees for the Giant Heat Sink (metro area) on Thursday. Desert temps still blaze hot, giving us west wind at 24-27 from Stevenson to The Dalles or so. Same goes for Friday, in theory, but that’s a long ways out to be forecasting. High temps will be between 97 and 100 for the next few days with very low humidity. Stay hydrated.

BONUS: Jones Monday: 22-25. Tuesday: 24-27. Wednesday: 21-24. Sauvie’s Monday: 14-17 late. Tuesday: 14-17 late. Wednesday: 7-10. Coast (north/central/south). Monday: 5-10/5-10/20-25, NW swell 4′ at 7 seconds. Tuesday: 5-10/15-20/25-30, NW 5′ @ 7. Wednesday: 5-10/5-10/20-25. NW 5′ @ 7.

Mt. Hood Mountain Weather Forecast

Hot and clear with wind at 10-15mph or so for the next three days.

Gorge Weather Forecast

It’s going to be quite hot this week, and even hotter this weekend. We should see good night temp recovery, so get ready to practice your “open window – close window” protocol. Monday starts with temps in the mid 50’s and ends up near 100. Light to moderate west wind. No rainbows. Tuesday starts near 60 and ends up near 100. Moderate westerlies. No rainbows. Wednesday looks just like Tuesday! We might see a brief dip in the highs for Thursday and Friday, but we’re back to 100+ for the weekend, especially Sunday which looks very, very hot.
