Gorge Wind Forecast

If easterlies are your thing, there will be plenty for you the next couple of days along with sunshine and temps +/- 5 degrees of 80. Monday starts with 35-40 near Rooster, 25-30 near Stevenson, 20ish near Viento, and 10-15 near Swell. That’ll all hold through early afternoon, after which the wind drops 10mph at Rooster and Stevenson and picks up to 10-15 east of Hood River. River flow is 73,700cfs, temp is 65 degrees, and high temp forecast is 78.

Tuesday starts with 30-35 near Rooster, 20-25 near Stevenson, and 15-20 near Viento with light easterlies to the east of there. Afternoon: 15-20 near Rooster, 15 near Stevenson, 10 near Viento, and light easterlies to the east. Wednesday starts with 15-20 near Rooster and 10-15 near Stevenson. Afternoon wind drops to 8-12mph. The next couple day after that look like very light east flow in the morning and light westerlies to 10-15mph in the afternoon.

Kiting is allowed again at the Marina. Event Site Launch-and-Land starts October 5th. Lyle is now off limits unless you can get to the sandbar without crossing the RR tracks. If you cross the tracks, you will be ticketed. Lyle: loved to death. Roosevelt: still closed due to wind damage from earlier this year. Mosier is only available to residents of 97040 (Mosier).

Coast (north/central/south, waves. Direction north unless otherwise noted. Swell forecast from NWS.) Monday: NNE10-15/NNE10-15/N5-10, W swell 10′ at 16 seconds. Tuesday: LTSW/LTSW?S10-15, W 8′ @ 13. Wednesday: LTV/LTV/N10, W 5′ @ 11. Jones Monday: E 5-10. Tuesday: LTV. Wednesday: W 10-13. Sauvie’s Monday: E 10. Tuesday: calm. Wednesday: calm.  

Hood River Weather Forecast

Clear sky stays clear all day. Temps will be in the mid 40’s early and upper 70’s later. Light to moderate easterlies. No rainbows. Tuesday: sunny all day. Temps will be near 50 early and in the low 80’s later. Light easterlies. No rainbows. Wednesday will be sunny and warm. Temps will be in the low 50’s early and mid 80’s in the afternoon. Cycling

9/27: Hood River County lands have reopened. 0.5” rain fell on Friday, 9/25 in Hood River. Mt. Hood National Forest: some areas have reopened. Expect many downed trees. Check their website for details. Syncline/Coyote Wall: reopened. Whoopdee, Hospital Hill, and Underwood are closed due to fire danger. Respect the closures. Try out some gravel riding instead!

Local Events

Weekly events: there are sailboat races at the Hood River Marina every Wednesday evening. Dirty Fingers has a group mountain bike ride Thursday nights at 5:30pm. The small boat group has a friendly and distanced paddle on, I believe, Thursday nights. Cheno has an outdoor HIIT workout at Columbia High School in White Salmon at 6pm on Wednesday nights. That’s pretty much it for outdoor sports. There is a BLM rally every Tuesday evening at 5:30 at the Salmon Fountain in Hood River, and there’s a White Coats for BLM rally every Wednesday evening at 6pm at 12th and May.  

Current Closures (may not be complete)

Mt. Hood National Forest (all closed). Gifford Pinchot NF west of Indian Heaven and south of the 90/30 Roads. Kreps, SDS, and other private timberlands. DNR and ODF lands. Many places in the scenic area. Completeish list here.
