Mt. Hood Snow Forecast
Mt. Hood ended up with quite a bit of snow over the weekend, especially at the higher elevations. With warm weather forecast for Monday afternoon, the avalanche danger will be very high today, especially on south-facing slopes. The snow quality will also deteriorate quickly due to warm temperatures. Looking at the rest of the week, we’ll see light to moderate snowfall each day.
So, Monday. Clear sky. Free air freezing level 5500′ early and 10,000′ in the afternoon. Wind NW 20 early and SW 15 in the afternoon, rising to SSW 25+ after midngiht.
Tuesday starst with light rain and (probably switches to light snow). Precip ends around 11am, leaving clear sky that turns cloudy overnight. The snow level will be 9000′ early, 5000′ during the precip, and 3500′ after midnight. About .2” water value (WV) falls, for up to an inch of new snow. Widn will be SW 25+ (more above treeline) all day, turning to WSW 20 after midngith.
Wednesday looks snowy, but models disagree on the amounts. The snow level will be around 3500′ all day, dropping to a free air freezing level of 1000′ or so after midnight under partly cloudy sky. Somewhere around 6” snow will fall in the 24 hour period. Wind will be WSW 25 in the morning, SW 15 in the afternoon and W 30 after midnight. Models show at least 6” of snow on Thursday and 2-3” snow Friday. The weekend currently looks clear and warm on both the GFS and the ECMWF.
Random Morning Thoughts
Happy Monday, everyone! I’m prioritizing my shower over reflections this morning. Know what else I prioritized? Cherry hand pies. I’m currently obsessed, and decided to bake a batch this morning, using my precious pre-work minutes to create fabulous smells in my house. May you be well fed. Have an awesome day.
Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist, but I am seeing clients at this time at Comprehensive Healthcare in White Salmon. In the meantime, I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely. Forecasting and counseling are both deeply meaningful and nourishing to me.

Road and Mountain Biking
Given all the rain we’ve had, Syncline is the only place you can ride guilt-free right now, and Hidden is not a good choice due to wet conditions. Try the low half of Syncline only. Today will be EPIC road biking conditions: light east wind and high temps in the mid 60’s. Tomorrow afternoon will also be dry but windier.
