Thursday looks clear in the morning with high clouds in the afternoon. FAF 12,000′ SE wind at 15. A weak front moves in on Friday bringing perhaps an inch or two of snow. We’ll have to wait and see how the details shake out for later in the week.

Random Morning Thoughts

It’s another busy Monday in my world, and the choice today is between a shower and a reflection. I think you know which path I’ll choose – the one that gives me a fresh start. Shower! I hope the start to you week is wonderful. Have an awesome day!

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist, but I am seeing clients at this time at Comprehensive Healthcare in White Salmon. In the meantime, I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely. Forecasting and counseling are both deeply meaningful and nourishing to me.

Gorge Wind Forecast

A few days of east wind to start the week will be followed by a few days of west wind. Details are still unclear – yesterday’s forecast had strong westerlies for Thursday. That’s no longer certain. For Monday, expect easterlies to peak at 20-25 this afternoon near Rooster Rock with 15-20 near Stevenson. Tuesday morning brings E 35-40 near Rooster and 30ish near Stevenson. After 2pm, the wind will fade to E 15-20. Wednesday starts off with early morning easterlies at 20-25 near Rooster and 10-15 near Cascade Locks. A quick fade as the heat low moves overhead takes the wind down to E 5 by noon.

Thursday is currently impossible to predict. Models agree on strong, gusty, westerlies on Friday. Chances are that we’ll see massive gradients on Friday with hard-to-find wind. One of those days… That said, there should be a couple of hours of less-gusty conditions out there somewhere!

Gorge Weather Forecast

The next three days will be sunny and warm. For Monday, temps will be in the mid 30’s early and the upper 60’s in the afternoon. Light east wind. No rainbows. Tuesday looks warmer: 40ish early and mid 70’s in the afternoon. East wind. No rainbows. Wednesday looks even warmer: upper 40’s early and low 80’s in the afternoon. Calm wind. No rainbows. Thursday still looks warm, but we’ll starts to see a switch in the wind and an increase in clouds. The general picture for the long-range forecast is cooler, wetter weather.

Road and Mountain Biking

This is a wonderful time of year to go mountain biking. You’ll find brown pow and wildflowers along with the beautiful sight of budding poison oak. We’ll have brown pow for the next four days. If the forecast is correct, we’ll get enough rain this weekend to refresh the trails. Road biking will also be awesome through Wednesday: sunshine, 70-80 degrees, and light east wind. After midday Thursday, the westerlies are likely to return. On Thursday evening, Anson’s Bike Buddies has a bike repair party behind Cascade Eye Center at 5pm.

Upcoming Events

Events today start with meditation at noon at Trinity Natural Medicine. There’s $5 Tai Chi at the Hood River Adult Center at 2:30. At 5:30, there’s a free yoga and stress reduction class at Haven in The Dalles. Free yoga happens at 6pm at Yoga Samadhi in White Salmon, and free Zumba is at mid-Valley elementary at 6:30.

Coming up Thursday, local non-profit Anson’s Bike Buddies has a bike repair party starting at 5pm behind Cascade Eye Center in Hood River. Come help change flats and wash bikes so locals in need can have bikes. The most exciting event this weekend is a free swordplay workshop at noon at the Hood River Library on Saturday.
