Gorge Wind Forecast

The next few days bring gusty westerlies to the Gorge along with a chance of rain and an extended period of very muggy weather. Whether it’s windy or not, the river is going to look very enticing!

For Monday, a weak, brief, and transitory ridge of high pressure supports decent westerlies. Early westerlies of 10-15 (except cloudy Stevenson and not-cloudy Roosevelt) pick up to 21-24 from Stevenson to The Dalles this afternoon. Avery and Rufus are a bit far east for this setup, but you’ll probably find 12-15 at Avery with 5-8 from Maryhill to Roosevelt. River flow is 103kcfs and temp is 65 degrees.

Tomorrow starts light and variable. Humidity picks up starting mid-morning, and that’s when the river will look quite enticing. Wind will slowly build to 12-15 midday. As a front approaches in the afternoon, the wind will jump to gusty 23-26 from Stevneosn to Avery for a couple hours. As the drizzle starts up, the wind will shift east to Rufus and Roosevelt, leaving the western Gorge with 7-10.

Clouds and sprinkles Wednesday mornign shift the wind to the east. Stevenson to Doug’s start with light west wind, and The Dalles to Roosevelt start with 15-18. Afternoon wind: gusty 24-27 from Moiser to Arlington with gusty 19-23 form Stevenson to Hood River.

COAST, JONES, SAUVIE’S: Coast (north/central/south, wind N unless otherwise specified). Monday: W5/N5/N10-15, SW swell 2′ at 15 seconds. Tuesday: S10-15/S10-15/S5-10, SW 2′ @ 18. Wednesday: S10-15/S10-15/S5-10, SW 2′ @ 16. Jones Monday-Wednesday: nope. Sauvie’s Monday-Wednesday: nope.

Road and Mountain Biking

All local trails are snow-free. The only unconfirmed trail I have right now is Huffman Peak. Whoopdee is closed for logging, but Ronnoc trail and the climb out are open. Red Hill Road is supposedly closed for logging. Ride at your own risk. If you’re riding Underwood, please do not park at the trailhead as per request by SDS. Continue past the trailhead 0.5 miles or so to the new parking area. The cows are off Hospital Hill!
