Mt. Hood Snow Forecast

While there’s not a lot of moisture in the forecast for this week, there is some moisture. The mountain will pick up a bit of new snow over the week (and some rain), with the potential for larger accumulation due to orographic effects on Thursday night.

For Monday, Mt. Hood will be partly cloudy in the morning and cloudy in the afternoon with light rain or mixed precip overnight. The snow level will be 5000′ this morning, 6000′ this evening, and 5500′ after midnight. About .1-.2” water value (WV) falls after 10pm, probably as rain. The rain will switch to snow in the wee hours of Tuesday.

Tuesday sees light snowfall for much fo the day, a possible break in the evening, and the orographic snowfall overnight due to WNW wind. The snow level will be 5500′ early, 3500′ by 7am, and as low as 1000′ after midnight. Dueing the day, the mountain will see .2-.3” WV, for 2-3” snow, likely with sunshine for a while in the afternoon. As the wind switches around to WNW in the evening, the snowfall will pick up again, with .2” overnight for 2-3” of additional accumulation. Wind will be W 25 in the morning, WSW 20 in the afternoon, and WNW 25-30 late afternoon through Wednesday morning.

Wednesday sees continued light snowfall, potentially enhanced by the wind. The snow level will be 1000′ early, 4000′ in the afternoon, and 5000′ after midnight. Approximately .3” WV falls during the day, for 3-4” of snow. Another .1” falls overnight, for another inch. Wind will be WNW 30 during the day, WSW 25 in the evening, and WSW 35+ after midnight.

Thursday looks to bring an inch of rain to the mountain followed by heavy orographic snowfall overnight. It’s hard to guess now much snow will fall – it’s going to depend on the exact track of the incoming system (currently aimed a little too far north for a spectacular result). A total guess would be 4-8” of snow on Thursday night with lots of wind-loading, but we’re really going to have to wait a day or so and see.

My birthday is today. I would be much appreciative if you’d send me a birthday card at PO Box 841 in Hood River, 97031. Thank you for taking the time and sharing a few words with me. Also, happy new year!

Random Morning Thoughts

Good morning! It’s Monday, but way more important than that is the fact that it’s my birthday today. Yay! Today’s the day of the year when I get to say, without shame, “Tell me you love me! Do it by sending a card!” I appreciate and feel loved all month long when birthday cards appear in my PO Box (#841, Hood River, 97031). And I also am appreciative and grateful for the effort it takes to pick out and purchase a card and come up with something to write on it. That takes time and energy, and I am thankful to all of you who have taken the time or who plan to take a few minutes and send a card along. I hope your day is as awesome as my birthday will be today. Don’t forget to ask for love. Have a lovely day!

Disclaimer required by my grad school program: I am not your therapist, but I am seeing clients at this time at Comprehensive Healthcare in White Salmon. In the meantime, I am your weather forecaster. Take everything I say with a grain of salt, and consult with your actual therapist about your mental health issues. One other thing: I plan to keep doing this forecast indefinitely. Forecasting and counseling are both deeply meaningful and nourishing to me.

Gorge Wind Forecast

Monday’s starting out with east wind at 10-15. It might pick up to 15-20 at both Rooster and Stevenson. Tuesday starts with light west wind. As a weather system moves in and high pressure builds offshore mid-morning, the wind will pick up to W 22-25 between Stevenson and Arlington. Wednesday looks light and variable.

Gorge Weather Forecast

I just walked outside and I was hopeful that I’d see the stars. Nope. Just a Nothing. The Nothing may break up this afternoon leaving us with… clouds! Temps will be in the upper 30’s early and low 40’s later. Est wind. No rainbows. Teusday looks showery and partly cloudy. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and mid 40’s later. West wind. 99% chance of rainbows. Wednesday looks showery and cloudy. Temps will be in the mid 30’s early and low 40’s in the afternoon. Light west wind early, light east wind later. 11% chance of rainbows. Nothing interesting or scary in the long-range forecast.

White Sprinter Van of the Week

Road and Mountain Biking

I heard from someone that Syncline below the fence is good right now. Above the fence is muddy, so please don’t ride or you will damage trails. Hospital Hill is also reported to be muddy, so let’s leave that one alone too. As far as I know, Post Canyon remains closed to all users to protect delicate dirt from winter damage. Please respect this, even if you think it doesn’t apply to you.
